Tell me about your F veiled's first clutch of eggs

I looked in on my veiled, and THINK I saw her with some very interesting dark marks (okay...insert Harry Potter joke here) on her side...two lateral stripes. I'm seeing vague sort of dots, nothing to write home about. By the time I had gotten across the room to her she had faded to solid green with her one pale stripe. Maybe I imagined the whole thing.

Being absolutely paranoid about the egg-laying thing, I really want to figure out if she's matured enough. She weighs under 50g, but she's sort of a wide load. Her body is wider than her head.

So I'm lookin at a laying bin and have a 5 gallon 'contractors bucket'. Will that be large enough? Right now there is playsand in it to a depth of about 18". Someone suggested adding peat moss as well.

I'm very interested in hearing about other people's first time with a veiled female carrying eggs. You folks with the live-birth kind of chams don't have this particular worry! Must be awesome to see though.

Submitted for your input,

My chameleon is about to have its first clutch anyday. Shes really restless right now. Im using a 5 gallon bucket filled with plant soil. My cage is big enough that i can put the bucket inside my cage. I have sticks going inside it so she can go in there when she is ready. She goes in there and looks around, she seems content with the bucket. So far i havent had any problems with the bucket.

Jan, you and the Kitty post are my bibles. I read and reread, and it still seems ineffable and magic. THEN I see sad posts, and my heart twists. Twelve inches it is...going to make the changes.

oh, and there is no way that the bucket will fit in her enclosure. I'm relying on my keen sense of timing to figure out when she needs to be put in the bucket.

That sounds sooo wrong.

Put a small bin in her cage and once she's interested put her in the large one. You don't want to miss the slight signs that they give you that they need to lay.

so the laying bin has to be 12 in. deep? would it be fine if it wasn't that deep?
I have to pick her up a bin soon and I want to be able to just keep it in her enclosure so would maybe 6 in. deep work out?

12 is best but I would not go less than 10 inches.
