What are ur temps in his cage? how close are the lights? what kind brands sizes?
Dark means cold or very dark is stressed

What kind of "tank"? ideally they should be housed in a screen enclosure because they need good ventilation, and if it is glass he may be getting too hot and stressed out if the ambient is not much lower than the basking temp.

Here fill this out for us so we can help you find what could be causing your boy stress =)

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - 4-6 months(not sure of exact age becuz i got him as a rescue from pet store} Male Veiled Chameleon
Handling - About once a day(he turns lighter when he take him out)
Feeding -He eats 4-5 crickets a day
Supplements - none at this time
Watering -I mist him a few times a day...I do see him drink from the drip i fix or the droplets from the cage or leaves
Fecal Description - poops are white, with brown solids
Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?im not sure..ive only had 3 days & got from pet store
History - dont really know much about him other than he came from flordia..the pet store had him with a jackson & he was really stressed so i brought him home

Cage Info:
Cage Type -again since this was a on the spot rescue i didnt have time to make a screen one so he is in a 10 gallon glass tank for right now..i plan on getting a cage made asap
Lighting - i have a daylight basking spot light 50watt & a 26watt repti glo tropical terrarium lamp(these are what the pet store suggested i get)
Temperature -the digital thermometer reads 78f
Humidity - the digital thermometer reads 90%
Plants - I have artificial plants for now till the screen cage is built
Placement - I have the tank in my room because that is the quietest room in the house with 4 kids!
Location -I live in Texas

Current Problem - He seems to be dark more than usual & nothing has changed in the past 3 days to cause him stress on my part...this is my first cham so ive been worried..when i take him out he turns lighter and seems to like being out more than in the tank..i plan on having him a screen cage built asap..his eating is still okay..and ive seen him drink and use the bathroom..just this color that bothers me

The temps are too low and humidity is to high, you need to get him to a better enclosure.
Also he needs suplements. Calcium every day, D3 and multivitamin twice a month.

okay how do i correct the temps? sorry for all the questions but im a new owner:confused:

No problem at all. It's good to ask questions. :) I'm not exactly sure what are the accurate temps for veild, but you simply need a higher watt bulb.
Someone more experienced should chime in soon :)

you can also put the basking light lower but be careful not to get your cham burned. If it's possible take the mesh out for better ventilation. And you REALLY need a proper enclosure asap!

im hoping to get a cage made this week or so..at first i was thinkg he was burned becuz he was so dark for a long time..but when i took him out he got lighter..

You can buy a screen cage cheaper than making your own. You can get an 18x18x36 from diycages.com for $70 shipped and a 24x24x48 for around $100 shipped from LLL reptile. After buying screen and wood and whatever else you intend on using it will cost at least that plus the time to put one together from scratch. The pre-drilled cages take around 10 minutes to assemble. Just FYI Hit me up if you need help setting up a cage. And.... Welcome to the forums!

If you want to think about it, I and many others on here free range our chameleons :) This way you don't have to buy a screen cage, you buy some tall plants and hang up your lights and presto :D It would be good if you had a humidifier in the same room to help but mist a few times daily and it should be fine. Male veileds need a basking temperature of between 90-100f, but ONLY when it is easy for them to escape the heat. If you keep him in the tank for now try to keep it around 85 so the ambient temperature doesn't get too hot. Also they can go down to 50f at night, and a slight temperature drop at night is recommended for them to thermoregulate. Not down to 50 but just in case you were wondering how cold they can get.

This is what I am doing for my male panther, veileds and panthers have almost identical requirements: https://www.chameleonforums.com/years-outdoor-free-range-83542/

He remimds me of my Luie at that age. He was always happy out of the cage and now ALL my guys free range. I'm attaching my blog for new keeper for you so you can get everything corrected for him. I wouldn't want to see anything happen to that sweet looking little guy. You need to get your supplements, gutload and cage ASAP and bring his basking temps up to 83 or 84. I would just buy a cage. This is a good price and shipped free.
