Supers

I haven’t feed super worms yet and have a big order coming what do y’all recommend to put on the floor of their “enclosure” oatmeal, grains, dirt?

I use mealworm bedding grain (bran or whatever it’s made of). They like to bury themselves, so make sure it’s at least a few inches deep. Then to prevent possible mold growth in the bedding grain, I use a small plastic lid to put their moist food on.

I know most people use the beddings described above, but I don't like to. They block calcium and other nutrients from being absorbed. There are healthier options. I raise my supers on eco earth and feed them the same foods that I feed the roaches.

With all that said, if all your other care is good... dusting, food variety, etc... it probably doesn't make a big difference. Especially if the supers are just used as treats.

I wouldn't say no oats, but maybe not a great bedding to go with. The nutrition of a feeder is influenced somewhat by what it's raised feeding on.

I was once told not to use oatmeal for bedding but I have pet been able to remember the reason since I was told so long ago....but it was someone who had to do with nutrition and insects. I think they said it had to do with calcium absorption.
I think @jamest0o0 has finally given me a reason!

That’s great! We learn something every day
