Hello, I tried bringing my cham outside for the first time and was about to place him of a shrub. but then he jumped out of my hands twice and did everything he could do to get away from me. It was all I could do to get him back inside. Does anyone know why he did this? He hates being handled but is always okay during it. Again does anyone know why he did this?

If I do try to bring him outside...where do I put him and how do I get him used to me holding him to get him outside?

He was probably startled by "outside" if it was his first time out there. If you have a chameleon that won't let you hold him while you are outdoors then maybe bring his whole enclosure outside or by a new ecnclosure that way you won't have to worry if you like space out or something.

Best guess is if he's new to you or people in general he's probably stressed out (Chams from what I've been told when stressed can get very docile and this can be confused with being "OK" with it).

How long have you had him? It he tame?

This could be a simple plight on his part to get free of you, as these are wild animals. Captive bread or not, the instinct is still there until such time as you build the trust needed.

I have heard too many stories of people that have lost their cham outdoors. On guys phone rang and in less than a minute his cham was gone. I have a small cage I use outside.
