Stuck Digging!!!!

Glad she made it. :) Maybe since when was in the hole for so long (head down) there was excessive CO2 build up and not enough oxygen down there. Could be wrong, just theorizing. ;)

Thanks everybody. She is remarkably better than yesterday, but not completely out of the woods yet. I just noticed she hasn't gotten back full use of her tail. She's sleeping but her tail is not curled normally. Its wrapped loosely around a branch. She walks & climbs but she hasn't eaten yet. Do females usually eat right away when they deposit their eggs ?

She should eat right away after laying. You really need to get her to a good chameleon vet,

What would a vet do for her in this situation? Serious question not being sarcastic.

What I would do is let her keep recovering. If she is walking, climbing around and drinking I wouldnt take her to a vet just yet. Also, because the tail is wrapped around a branch she still has some control over it. Chameleons seem to curl their tail when relaxed or comfy. This girl has been through a hell of an ordeal and I doubt she is relaxed or comfy at the moment. I dont think stuffing her in a box, taking her to a vet to be poked, prodded and restrained for x-rays would be the best thing for her at the moment. As Scott said, keep her well hydrated. Offer her food every day, if she doesnt eat it take it out so it doesnt stress her more. If time goes by and she still isnt eating and getting weak but still drinking you can get carnivore care. This is mixed with water to make a soupy liquid. Drop some on the end of her nose or at the tip of her mouth after you get her to start drinking. Maybe even putting a small well gut loaded feeder in her mouth after she starts drinking. I would wait a few days though and see how she starts reacting. If she starts going way down hill thats when I would take her to a vet but it sounds like she is bouncing back.

Well I’m not exactly sure what my vet would do in a situation like this but he is an expert and I’m sure he would know. If I had a chameleon in that condition and looked the way this one does in the pictures above I could not live with myself if I did not get it immediate medical attention.

Update Day 2

More good news! She ate from my hand twice today. Lots of walking around but still doesn't have full control of the tail. She's looking a little better each day. I think she crossed a threshold today eating on her own & I'm sure it's going to be uphill from here!

tail

yes, very good to hear. Is her tail have the normal coloration?

Hey Lance , thanks for your help on the phone the other day. About the tail. it seems to be slightly lighter colored than her body & the barring seems to be absent. I'll post these pics I just took. I'm not sure if its clear enough but you can also see the way she kind of drags it along & can't curl it right

Looks like her tail is has a bump right where it starts to curl. Was that always there? Maybe somehow she broke it? I've had chams with a bump or two on their tails like that I always assumed they were old breaks. They used their tails fine though, she probably will in time too.
