Sticks ?? v2

So I picked out some sticks from an alive oak tree. So I have a couple questions. 1 Do I take the bark off of the stick. 2 should I clean them before or after I remove the bark if needed xD

The bark gives them something to grip.I never cleaned any branches I used.

I just bake mine at low temp for 15 mins. Done.

I use Chlorhexidine and soak them in a diluted solution in the bathtub which is easier for me because i get sticks that are 4-5 feet long

I just put them in my shower and run the hottest water from my tap over them and remove any moss, lichen, or peeling bark. Most times, I don't even do all that, unless there a reason to suspect contamination of some kind. I never remove the bark, but wild grape vine and honeysuckles are examples of vines I'd likely sand blast or scrub to removed the flaking, peeling bark.
