Hi all, I have a few questions about sternfledi, how big of a cage do they need, will a 24" 24" 48" be too big?? how many inches is their body lenght (snout to vent) Are the adults easy to keep? what temps and humidities do you keep yours at?? Thanks in advance
Thats really big for a single, they are a small species. Singly, I keep mine in my sun cages....15x16x25. 2 of them in a 18x18x30/36. U cannot keep males together and when the female are gravid they will act hostile to the males and will stress the other females.
They are a small species but if you can give them the room why not. I keep one of mine in a 18" x 24" x 48" and she is very happy. And don't think because they are small they will not use the space. She is very active and I find her in every part of the cage through out the day. She is up and down the ficus and pothos that fill the cage. Now, they can be kept in smaller cages, don't get me wrong.
I have an adult male (3" snout to vent) in a 15" x 15" x 30" but he will gladly roam out if I leave the door open.
Sternfledi are not always an easy species. I keep mine around 72 F and moderatly high humidity. Babies are not for beginner and live born species have a high mortality rate until 5 months of age.- Even then it's not a sure bet.
Keeping groups or pairs is not a common practice and is not beginers.
