stange chameleon habits

do your chameleons ever do stuff that is really wierd/ funny? one wierd thing my cham does is when he is climbing, he always grabs on to his other limbs, and he gets all tangled up! does your chameleon(s) ever do that? whats the wierdest thing you have ever seen you chameleon do?

This might be okay...but sometimes they do this if they have calcium issues. Maybe you should go over your husbandry here??

i didnt know that was a sign of mbd. i discovered that he had mbd a couple weeks ago. its not in its full state yet. but i have been working on it since i found out. ive been taking him outside alot, for extra uvb lighting and ive been giving him extra calcium/ vitamins and water.
sorry. plz dont critisize me. :(
ive been doing my best.

Wait why is that a sign of MBD?
Im not doubting any one.
I just wanna know why they do that? To help support their weak bones or what?

Chameleon884 im sure no1 willl criticise you!!! Everyone makes mistakes.... Just make sure that you are doing the correct thing now!

Have you seen the vet and followed all the recommendation he/she had to give?

Also will be a good idea to do lots and lots of resaeach on the disease. We will all try help you if you ever have any questions! or require advice :)

First of all...I didn't intend to criticize you...I'm just trying to help you. I feel bad because now that I have gone back and read some of your threads I realize that your chameleon has had calcium issues for quite a while...but because you made every question a separate one, I never put 2 and 2 together until now.

The lack of eating, the flexibility, the tongue issues you mentioned in different posts and a number of other things when put together would have led me to discuss MBD. To stop further damage IMHO you need to get this corrected ASAP.

The quickest way to correct this is to take it to the vet and get injections of calcium until the blood levels are high enough to give it a shot of calcitonin which rapidly draws the calcium back into the bones.

In the meantime, providing it with sunshine and UVB will help as will giving is some liquid calcium sandoz or calcium gluconate (which is absorbed quicker than the powders). You can also make sure that your temperatures are good to aid in digestion and improve your gutloading.

Once the calcium is back in line, you will need to make sure you supplement properly, etc. to keep things in balance.

Calcium, phos., D3 and vitamin A are all important players in bone health and they need to be in balance. You need to look for those nutrients in your supplements and in what you feed the insects and what you feed the chameleon.

You said you are giving it vitamins...do they have prEformed vitamin A in them??

IMHO the weird grasping of its own legs happens because when there is a calcium balance the bones are flexible and the muscles might pull them more than normal and unevenly so the feet don't go where they should go. Also, calcium affects muscles and may be making them react abnormally. I'm not a vet so this is just my own opinion.

Good luck!
