Last August I bought what I was told was a female Jackson's chameleon. She has no horn. She has been ok but never what I thought was healthy. I have had a Cham before. Within the last few weeks she hasn't been eating as she should and has become lethargic. She is properly cared for as far as humidity, misting, diet. She isn't handled or stressed. I am a stay at home mom so she is misted and taken care of. I am in the southern louisiana area with no vet that says they can see a Cham. To me she looks to have the beginnings of mouth rot and possibly an upper respect infection. Also her eye on the side with the rot is swollen. Right now she is in the shower so that I know she is staying hydrated. She will drank and are one cricket yesterday but nothing today. She keeps her eyes closed which is not her norm. All this seemed to come on quick. The last 3 days she has seemed to go down hill. She still has her strength but the other morning she was on the floor of her cage which isn't like her either. She also has a place to lay eggs if needed. I have made sure she has best captive environment possible so I am really heart broken at this turn of events. I have read that baytril is good but can do more harm than good. I don't know what else to do, I do not want to loose her. Anything at all would be great, thank you in advance for your time.

Honestly, you are probably gonna lose her if you cannot find a vet. If she has mouth rot, she needs an anti biotic. It sounds as if the infection has spread to her eye. I am sorry to give you this news, but I would keep trying to find a vet in your area, or even if you have to travel.

Thank you

Ok thank you. I am praying I can keep her holding on and Monday I will go on the hunt for someone that can see her. I even thought about calling the zoo here in New Orleans because they have to know of someone that can see exotics. Or maybe they would be willing to see her, I know it's just a pet but I really love her. I feel horrible as if I haven't done something right and it kills me that she may be suffering or in pain. But thank you very much for your time

It might not be something you did or did not do. Sometimes they just get sick, even under the best of care. Do you have the proper UV lighting for her? Good luck with everything. I hope she holds on for you.

Yes she has the long uv light that stretchers the length of her cage and then the basking light as well. She is able to go to different levels to regulate her temp. It's about 87 F under the basking light at one corner and then she can go either to the other side of the cage or lower in the enclosure to get cool again. The ambient is about 74 F. Humidity ranges from 60 to 80%. What are the best conditions possible for a Jackson's?
