my cage kinda smell weird and i dont know if its because of my plants or if the cage is suppose to smell but anywho, is it bad for my health and the chameleon health that the cage smell?

My vote would be that smell is bad.

I suspect you have a live plant that is getting over watered with no drainage and so there is mold.

That would be bad for you and your chameleon.

jesus ! this smell is irritating me. i saw how to make a drainage system and i do have a drainage system that lead the water to a tank that is on the floor. the only thing that is pissing me off is that nasty smell! what do i do!

If its that bad you might think about replacing the plant. If you have to get a new one, make sure the soil drains well next time so you dont end up with rotting vegetation due to over watering. What kind of plant do you have?

If it smells then clean out the cage and find the source. May need to replace the plants. Mixing the soil with sand will help with drainage.

Just an FYI, when getting a plant for your cage it is absolutely necessary to take it out of the pot and totally spray ALL the dirt off the roots and wash the leaves and stems. Buy a new plastic pot with a dripper plate underneath. Really, they are cheap and will catch any water that comes out of the plant from overwatering. Then, in the bottom of your new plastic pot put some clean rocks or broken ceramic pot shards. This will help the holes in the bottom of your new pot to stay open and drain well. You can then add your dirt without fertilizer. I always like to have a little fish aquarium charcoal mixed into the dirt at the bottom which will keep the dirt smelling fresh and clean. Leave about 1 1/2" at the top clear to put rocks in so your cham doesn't dig in the dirt and eat it.

Replanting your plants in this manner will give your guys a clean, chemical and bug free plant to live in. I also lay a paper towel or a circle or newspaper over the rocks on top which I change at least once a week to catch poop. They do like to poop in the rocks and then your good job of providing a clean environment gets dirty really quickly.

Good luck!

i have a potho that is mix with sand and rocks. although i did not buy a new pot just like the last post said. ill give that a try.

I had a corn plant that started to smell. The reason for this is the leaves hold water like a cup where the leaves sprout from. It started to go mouldy and smelly. Now in the bin though and I replaced it with an umbrella plant.

I would guess your problem is caused by a similar thing.
