my male Jackson sems to sleep alot and im not sure why. hes about 7-8 monthes old. i feed him average doses of bugs and mist him twice a day. i have owned him for a little over a month or so. he lives in a screened cage. i keep a good heat source for him and also use a uvb light. during the night i switch the heat lamp to a moonlight heat lamp. i handle him every other week or so for a few mins. replies would be appreciated.

Lose the night light it could be keeping him up and jacksons like it colder than some so a temperature drop at night is good

When you say "sleeping a lot" are you saying he sleeps when it's light outside and you have your lights on for him? or are you questioning the fact that when the lights go out, he goes to sleep?

I think I know the answer, but I've learned that the advice about ASSUME is correct..it makes an ass out of you and me...

Ok, we need a little more info about a few things. If you could copy and paste the help form and answer the questions in as much detail as possible, that would be a big help. Such as, what is the brand and type of your UVB light? Do you gutload your feeders? Are you using supplements? If so, what kind and how often? Pictures of your cham are also great.

As was already said, get rid of that night lamp, it's not needed.

oh. eliza i meant to say he sleeps a good sum during the day. and my heat source for night broke the other day and havent had a chance to get a new one, but now i see i wont be needing one!

Your cham should not sleep during the day, this is a tell that something might be going wrong, Chameleon Loco mentioned the light could be keeping him up, that could be true but it could be and probably is something else. Please fill this form out, so we can see what all is going on.

Thanks,

sleeping jacksons?

if a jacksons of that age is regularly sleeping during the day, then that is likely indicative of a underlying problem. you didnt specifically say what uvb light source is, but a genuine reptisun 5.0 linear is the best choice. jacksons prefer a considerable drop in nightime temps and if he is kept indoors then no nightime heat is required. the only heat bulb he needs or should have is a low wattage (25-40) daytime uva basking bulb. (heat lamp sort of implies ir heat lamp) as long as he can warm up promptly, then he is quite comfortable with nightime temps down to 50*, jackson like moister, cooler conditions and a good max safe daytime basking temp is around 84*, jacksons can be harder to keep hydrated, and if you are only hand misting twice a day it is likely to lead to hydration problems, unless he has a dripper and drinks readily from it, even still it would be hard to maintain the desired humidity levels on just two mistings a day. if you were to fill out the help form in its entirety, it would be easier for us to get you pointed in a better direction. jmo
