So I have had my cham a week Thursday and for the first time she fell asleep early, like 6pm my time.I noticed that she went to the bottom for the first time and looked at her 30 minutes later to find shes out?I know this isn't good. What does this mean? What can I do?

If it was mid afternoon, i would be worried. Leo goes down to his branch an hour before the timer goes off sometimes..Maybe sh ejust woke up early and headed in early?

My two will often do that. They don't seem to care when I think they should go to bed. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

6pm is ok.....did she fall asleep in her normal spot or on the bottom of her cage?

mine will sometimes have an early night especially if he has had an especially busy day no expert by any means but i wouldn't worry too much yet

What is your light cycle? When do the lights come on and go out? What are your temps? What kind of lighting are you using? Is she near a window?

yes she did go to a different spot yesterday and as of right now she is still in the same spot? This is a different spot then where she is usually sleeps, right now close to the bottom of her ficus.the temps are normal, around 86 degrees. Her lights go out at 10pm and on at 8am.

Thats a strange light cycle..To me anyways. I go by Mother Nature.. Does the sun set at 10pm in TX? 630-630 here and will change next weekend with Daylight savings.

Is she near the soil? She might be wanting to lay. I know Betty stayed close by when she was getting ready to lay..lower. I cant imagine carrying all those eggs is exactly energizing.

Do you have a vet you can call just to get some answers? I know most vets instantly want a visit, more so for money than safety..Our vet here is pretty good although she knows nothing about chams but will give me what she does know over the phone or consult some magical Dr handbook she has.

well Blackbetty she is only 3 months old and has not had a mate.I heard from someone that, they don't need a mate to lay though. Is that so?And before I got her home,I asked about light timing an a senior member said those time would be ok,but see what you saying.

Females lay regardless. A mate just ensures that it would probably be fertile.

How d you know she is only 3 months? Did you buy her form a breeder or a pet store?

I bought one of my veiled and was told it was a 3 year old MALE..

Ended up being a 6-8 month old FEMALE>..

and I didnt read anything on the light. 60 watt House bulb for basking, 5.0 Repti-glo Linear (long not like a house lightbulb)..and thats that. Unless you want a plant light and there is a recent thread about that, just use search engine.Edit: oh you meant the light cycle? If her lights arent going off til 10 and she is going down at 6, she is telling you something.

How is she today?

ok so today she is still in the same spot as last night. So these eggs would not be worth anything or is the a chance the they will hatch?she has to be three months old she is tiny, told by breeder,I have yet to measure or take a clear pic of her.The lighting is 60 watt bulb with a 24 inch repiglo 5.0 on a 24 inch cage.

Lights are good. No, unless she is with a male, the eggs are useless. One laid and covered, you can dispose of. You can try to hatch unfertile eggs but thinking you wont get far;)

I have NO clue at what age they start laying. Something to search or someone else can chine in.

She's in the same spot..Is she dark?

no she isn't dark but then agian she did go down late last night.I hope she dosn't need to lay eggs cause she is tiny:eek:So if she does need to lay what does she need?

When the female is getting ready to lay she will often go off food and will become restless, spending more time near the bottom of her enclosure and frequently pacing it's edges. At this point the female should be placed in a laying bin, in a private area with minimal disturbances. A five gallon bucket filled 1/3 of the way with a 50/50 mix of sand and peat moss for gardening works well as a laying site. This mixture should be mixed with water and compacted so that it is moist enough to hold the formation of a tunnel but not wet. When placed in the container a female, that is ready to lay and finds the laying mixture of adequate moisture, should soon start to dig a hole to lay her eggs.

A female can take quite a while to lay her eggs, and will occasionally dig test holes before settling on a hole in which to lay her clutch. Once the female has laid her clutch, she should be removed from the laying container and gently palpated to make sure the entire clutch has been deposited. Extra care should then be taken with the female to ensure she is able to re-hydrate, and that she has access to nutritious food so that she can regain her strength.

The eggs should be carefully removed from the laying container and placed into an incubation medium for incubation. It should be noted that females are able to store sperm and additional fertile clutches can occur without additional mating. Once allowed to recover, however, if you wish to get additional fertile clutches, it is best to re-breed your female as the offspring of retained sperm clutches tend to be less strong then offspring from a new breeding.

ok so should I wait til she goes dark or is sooner the better?I'd hate to put her through the stress of putting her away if Im not completely sure yet.

Chams needs to sleep at night for a good length of time. It is possible that since you are having the lights turn off at 10:00pm, she is sleeping in. DO as someone mentioned: have the light schedule closely mimic the natural daylight cycle.
She is too young to even develop eggs. So I wouldn't worry about that. Just make sure she is eating and drinking. If she is eating, drinking and pooping, chances are she is alright.
If she sleeps during the day, that could be an issue.
Get the lights to more of a natural cycle and then watch her sleep cycle.
I don't know if you are handling her, but the only time I handled her was to clean the cage or put her outside.
How much are you handling her?

Ok thanx for chiming in,I was getting a little worried. As for handling I'm waiting till she is bigger, maybe a month or two. So,zero times that she has been handled.

Keep on waiting. The idea is to not handle them. As Lance said, he only would handle when cleaning and moving. You should follow this ideal and keep your handling to a minimum.
