Simple Way to get Egg layers to Lay

A lot of people seem to have problems with egg-binding in female veileds and panthers. Most of the time this is due to the females not finding a suitable place for nesting. Here is a simple way to make an egg laying container that will have most females laying within an hour.

Get two buckets and connect them with a 3 inch x 5 inch PVC pipe. On the first container use a hardwire cloth as the lid, removing any previous lid. Also use a clamp lamp with low wattage to provide heat to the egg laying female. Place sand in both buckets up to a little higher then the bottom of the PVC pipe. Next, moisten the sand in the bucket that remains dark. Then take moist sand and pack it into the PVC pipe between the two buckets. Once you see a female starting to dig around to lay eggs, place her in the bucket with the light. In a few short mins she'll find the moistened sand in the PVC pipe and start digging. Once she reaches the dark "chamber" of the other buckets she'll lay within a min or so.

This method works well on most egg laying lizards including various warmer weather chameleons, bearded dragons, etc.

If your female has already been running around looking for a suitable egg laying container and seems weak, you may also need to inject the chameleon with a subcutaneous injection of LRS and calcium to assure hydration and strength. It's a good idea for most breeders to have these on hand.
