Silkworm journey

@redhorse, I also read in a book that flacherie also comes from mold exposure. I find that when I consulted different sites, some mentioned things that others did not. Even the book I got had a few details that other sources may have not specified.
From personal experience, I learned that there is a period of time between exposure to that which causes infection to the onset of the illness. It was around a week or so before the first ones infected started spewing fluid. Then those who were infected by the ones who were already ill took another week, and so it went.

What, flacherie or COVID-19?

What, flacherie or COVID-19?
Flacherie.. Although while this was going on, it did make me think of the COVID 19 pandemic; incubation period for infection, separating and quarantining the sick from the well, sterilizing their living space, and the fact that just when everything looked ok several more fall ill or die in a day or two.

I have found that if I clean/sterilized the bin weekly and wash hands before handing them keeps them health. I also wash my hand before feeding them.

as they get bigger I clean the bin every other day and feed every day. If the bin has good air flow and the poop drys out the bin stay much clean for longer. I don’t use a lot of food at one time. Just place a thin layer to be eaten quickly. I have gone from have quite a few dying off to having very few if any dying off. For me clean bin and hands is the key.

Such important information... Thanks!

Just playing around today and wanted to share a few pics....

WOW! This is great, I didn't know there were so many disturbed critters.

I am sure it can be traced to their parents and upbringing, or lack of.

So you now have an original with my car, since this is the first time every being shared.
He was recently booked for the "attempted car jacking" and sent to the Grandchildren in GA. Being with 2 young boys will straiten his attitude hopefully. He is band from visiting "Rainforest Café" for life (restaurant for those that never heard of it).

What a wonderful weekend, hope everyone enjoyed family, friends, critters or just some me time.

Mama/Papa- look, I can fly!

They have some fresh chow and filling the container, so they can stretch there little legs and feet.

I noticed in the last container that some of their droppings were starting to get fungus. I plan to invert the container so the droppings fall to the bottom.

Anyone with some current pictures would be greatly appreciated since they do have some nice designs.

I took a close up of one of the heads and there was a standing cookie monster. It is fuzzy but maybe others can see it.

Yes, I look at clouds looking at the different shapes too.

Ooh! They’re getting big! 😊 Here’s a pic I found a while back of their little faces. I try not to think much about it.😱

Oooh, how precious! :cautious: 🤮

I just had to move my babies earlier today...all 500+ of them! This is how I keep them. As their food dries (usually every day to every other day), I add a bit more. As they move to the fresh chunks, I remove the old dried bits remaining. When the frass builds up (every 3 days or so) I lift with the mesh and change their paper towel. When they get bigger, I’ll use gutter guard. Using a mesh and just little piles of food helps keep their poo off the food.
