i will be putting my girlfriends cam in the shower as soon as i get some tips. i have never done this before. i have a fake plant she may hold on to, and i understand that water is not directly on the animal, but rather hitting off the walls and spraying onto it. my question is this. how long would an appropriate amount of time be? i will be showering her with 5 hour intervals. and also too, what is an appropriate warmth to the water?

thanks.

I suspect it varies with the chameleon and the situation. I've seen people say they leave them in the shower for 20 minutes. I've also seen people say there's no reason to give a chameleon this kind of shower unless the animal is dehydrated or not pooping.

I shower Gizzy frequently due to her poop problems and usually keep her in the shower for 30-45 minutes. You should not leave the cham alone in the shower (which you prob already know) so it is a long job, but well worth the benefit. Heat wise I put my hand into the spray and if it feels just warm then i go with that. Gizzy seems to love the shower so i also go on her response to it when deciding the length of the shower. If you are showering for hydration then perhaps the time could be shorter, hopefully somebody could give you advice on that too. I hope your cham enjoys the shower as much as ours does :D

Watch the cham...the first time you do this it may freak out and let itself fall. Try it gradually and make sure the cham can get out of the spray if it gets spooked. If you are showering for drinking watch to see when it starts drinking and when it stops. That may tell you how long. If the cham is generally dehydrated longer will be better so it can clean its eyes, drink, and absorb the higher level of humidity through respiration. The capacity of your hot water heater may determine how long you can do this.

As for temperature, remember if the water feels body temp to you, it means the water is over 95 F. To a cold blooded cham this will be hot. Luke warm or a bit less than your own body temp should be OK.
