She abandoned another hole! Whyyyyyy?

So hole number 2 on day 2 of digging didn't cut it either. Any suggestions on how to keep her from abandoning her hard work?? She's covered and I have a peephole but she was belly deep this morning so I know she didn't see me peep. I have a damp mix of coco fiber and moss, should I go get some sand?

I know it's hard, trust me I have dealt with similar things that cause me to have to just breathe and find something to occupy myself so I only check in once a day at most

I added some more cover in her trash can when I misted her today, and I'm going to move her to the closet for more quiet. Sand is otw, it should be here tomorrow. If she's not satisfied with her current substrate I'll mix some in... How long can it take for a first laying? Her eggs are so big, you can see them individually now. Just wondering when egg binding become's a concern...

Well, then the mite outbreak in my mealworm colony has awesome timing because I'll have my hands busy dealing with it and sanitizing my bug farm all day!

I would only really worry she's egg bound if she stops showing any interest in the substrate and shows lethargy, hmmm mites usually happen with too much moisture...

She's plenty active, digging her little heart out and then she gets her big butt back up to bask every afternoon. She won't eat, and is showing less interest in her mists and drops which worries me a little.
I gave the mealworms too many carrots I think, that's where the worst of the mites are. The question is, try to save some or at least my beetles or pitch the whole mess and start over?

Loosing apatite and digging more then one hole is very common for chameleons when laying. Mealworms to many carrots and mites? What does this have to do with her laying? I dont believe you can over feed mealworms. How many days has she been digging for?

I would cull the entire mealworm colony that's infested. It's hard to safely get rid of mites in an insect colony because the eggs are so small.

Cleaning the mites are going to distract me from peeking on her! The moisture from overfeeding encourages mites to grow in the substrate. Sorry to get off topic... She started digging yesterday morning. I know I'm probably being paranoid, but she has a LOT of eggs.

My first female dug test holes for 4 days before digging the right hole. Is the medium damp enough?
It's damp enough to hold a tunnel the whole way down to the bottom, about 12 inches. I don't want to upset her, so I'll wait a few days before I try adding sand to the mix. I just peeked in to spray her today and added some more foliage as quick as I could so she felt more hidden.

Mites dont impact chameleons health, they do the feeders though. Best thing to do is throw them out and start over. Female should lay any day now. Do you have any photos of her dig bin?

It's just a kitchen size trash can, 12ish inches of coco fiber/moss damp enough to tunnel.

I would take out all that stuff on top and fill it up to the top with digging material. She might not be digging deep enough to feel comfortable to lay them;. Maybe adding some more layers of digging material would help her lay better.

I have stuff on top so she feels secure and doesn't catch me peeking in the morning! I have sand en route, when I add it she'll have a few more inches to dig
