Hi everyone!

So I got my Ernie last Wednesday.. he's a 1y.o. Nosy Be.

I just wanted to ask how long it took for other people's panthers to settle in and start to relax?

He still hates my guts and I'm only going to his cage to mist or feed him. It's not like I'm trying to grab him every 5 seconds.. when he sees me he puts his angry boots on and if I get a tiny bit too close, he tries to bite me :(

I've put some pics in so you guys can see the colours he has been.. no blues as of yet.

Any extra tips to help him feel safe and comfortable?

Thanks :)

Oh I forgot to mention.. he is eating well and drinking, but he's a little dehydrated from what I see in his urates.

He does get especially cranky when I mist the cage.. I use warm-hot water so its not freezing when it sprays out.

His lights are on a timer and he usually goes to bed about 30mins before lights out (it is dark very early here right now and he can see outside, so I think thats why he's doing it)'and he wakes up within 10mins of the lights coming back on.

Don't know if any of this info helps?

congraz on a a new baby, he is really pretty! I'd say at least 2 weeks.
Also, I'm no expert, but he doesn't look like Nosy Be to me. I'm adopting a 9 months old Ambanja gentleman in January, kinda looks like him.

Congrats on your new boy! And he does look nosy be to me, With all the super blue lines that breeders have now i think people dont realize that Nosy bes are actually green in the wild...

I would give have him a week or two to come around.. Try hand feeding occasionally

That would be because the Ambanja in the UK mainly arnt pure Ambanja there mostly all crossed somewhere down the line

It depends, Squee settled in and calmed down around me within a few weeks, but Smidget still hides from me after 4 months!! I hardly ever even
see him.
If I stick my hand in his cage too close to him, he gets defensive and tries to bite me
He is going to take much more time and patience :(

Awsome litte nosy be he looks exectly what he shoid look like. If you had bought a true blue nosy be he would be blue. Like coldblooded said true nosy be is intact green and look just like your boy. Excellent buy I hope he calms down for you some of my guys settle quick some not so quik lol my male faly has been here almost 6 months and just started letting me close to him.

I haven't yet had much experience with panthers, however I can go off of my own my experience with my veiled thus far. When I first got her, She showed all the same characteristics as you mentioned, Hissing, Lunging, Running away. Its been just over 2 weeks, and shes done a complete 180, She ate from my hand the first time last night, she barley hisses. She just puffs if she feels uncomfortable. Putting food on my hand and holding it out in front of her worked really well for me (make sure your hand is within his comfort zone if she backs away stop and try again in a bit), I Also did a bit of free ranging.Time and Patience is key, as all chameleons are different.
These methods are working well for me hope it helps.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! It is fantastic! I'm going to try hand feeding tomorrow morning as I need to take him to the vet Sunday night (just a checkup and get a faecal test), so I don't want to scare him (or myself!).

If you think there is anything I'm doing wrong, please let me know :)
