Set-ups

I have a general question for anyone who wants to answer it.

Why is the set-ups for chameleons different based on geographic locations (i.e. glass enclosures, mixed glass/cage, and full cage vs Europe, US and Canada)? The only way it makes sense to me is temperature and humidity control?

Any thoughts?

Temperature and humidity control. Lucky me living in Florida! I use all screen because both temperature and humidity is high, where someone in Canada is dealing with cold temps and very low humidity!

Well you will get mixed answers on this question but from my understanding that people in the UK have had a great deal of success with glass terrariums and it is because it is easier to keep heat and humidity in. In the US people that are lucky enough to live in Florida dont have humidity problems but peolple in AZ do and they need humidifiers but also use a screen cage because of the heat they have there...

I'm in Canada and have no problems with a screen cage. The inside temperature of most peoples homes are the same, but the humidity level is what changes. That can be fixed with a Mist King;)

There's no right or wrong answer here. Some guys are able to keep chameleons in standard glass terrariums healthy, others use special glass or aluminium enclosures. Depends not only on your country, depends as well on the place where you want them to keep (in front of a window/cellar etc) and of course which species you prefer.

For real! Stop trying to be a grumpy meanie pants! I grew up outside of Chicago-so I understand what cold weather is. In the winter humidity SUCKS, so I can see looking back where a well planted, well ventilated glass-style cage would work really well. Our furnace sucked every last bit of moisture out of the air to where I had to run a very large and expensive humidifier.

you tell em friend :D, i live in Windsor Canada, a 2 minute bridge ride away from Detroit. but yes, the heat issue was great all winter, but the humidity was absolutely a pain in the arse! the pros and cons of a furnace/electric heat. PRO: maintains a wonderful tempurature CON: sucks the humidity right out of the air. i have a flexarium too which seriously sucked all winter! but i refused to put any chameleon in a glass enclosure. debate with me all you want thats my preference. i will not do anything to my knowledge to harm any animal. but anyways, humidity was at an ambience of 35-37%. my exo-terra digital thermo/huygrometer read 28% but that thing was jacked when i first got it. its steady now at 60-70% or higher, i also didnt have live plants in the cage but it was caked with fake. Nothing does it better than live. the cage is always nice and humid with perfect fluctuating but steady temps all throughout ;)
