Honestly I think for a lot of new people this is there first experience with a forum and they don't realize how to use a forum or how powerful of a resource it truly is.

What should my basking temperature be?
:p

"I'm new! tell me everything i need to know!" --

#1 advice... hit search

only problem is search isnt good enogh for instance u put in cricket legs because u want to know risks, it will send u to anything saying cricket and anything sayng legs could take forever and feel like a needle in a haystack.<my experience. i and other newbies dont mean to irritate by posting the same thing 10 million others have. some cases like tell me everything (which i did) is lack of looking about first. but others know someone will likely help us with or questions plus we may feel like theres something different with our problem then the older post. just trying to defend some ppl i understand your thought but most havent used a forum i had no idea they existed like this one.

I'm not bashing--- completely :)

I just think some things are REALLY easy to find and seem to come up every few days! Maybe the search button should flash and glow. lol

Cricket legs-- legit thing to ask about. But now, if you started that thread with a proper name.. everyone should be able to find it! :D :D

I understand it can be frustrating for many on the forum who have answered the same questions time and time again. But I too am just learning about forums. I'm older wasn't raised on a computer like my youngest kids. I've tried to find answers to some questions I've had and was too intimidated to ask because I felt that people would just tell me to search for it.
Just sayin...

How about I kick in my thoughts? I have a search primer. i was made for me by a fellow member since I am lame.:( Because it contains pictures I can't just post it. i have no idea how many PM's i have sent offering to email it to people. I have had 3 people give me an email to send it to.

Next thing, Brad is working on a new member info sheet which should cover a lot of the stuff being discussed here. i am sure if some of you want to contribute, Brad might be happy for the help.

Next once we get a new member sheet those problems will be resolved. BUT for now why don't you guys do a blog together, and with others, if they want to help. We could all then just attach the link to that blog to ever new member. sooooo what it comes down to is are you guys all talk of can I see some action?:D:D:D

Search hardly works well for few reasons. For example type in Edema. I can't even find one thread that has it in the topic. Yet I've seen a lot of people recently asking about it. Also when if something does comes up who knows if its accurate.
There could be 40 laying bin topics pop up so which one to go by if you have no ideal and are new. Many people come here relying on help and get answers and take them seriously from people that have no clue so if they are searching I hope they find the right threads. I think making a new thread is a good idea if someone really has a problem or wants up front info rather then to search. I use search but I know how to scroll through and find what Im looking for, if you kind of get what I mean .

What does work good though. Is GOOGLE.. Say I type in Chameleon Forums Gular Edema, I get a list of threads that actually pertain to what I want to read unlike here it seems more based on Keyword terms by date. So all in all people should and could be searching in more than a few ways.

And there you have the reason I suggested a blog by people who will provide correct answers even if it takes 3 of you to get one answer correct, and for some hard question it just might.

I understand where your coming from but at the same time, the purpose of a forum is to ask questions. Without people posting questions the forum would be dead. Even if they are common questions. Just my opinion.

Seriously people.

 It exists.

(sorry, just felt like sharing)

Are you venting because you are bothered by it, or are you thinking from a Forum bandwidth standpoint.. I don't mind the noob questions, every Cham is different and first hand experience from experienced Forum members are needed. But what does bother me is the million threads created by the same owner regarding the same Cham!

Day 1
"I got my Cham today"

Day 2
"He isnt drinking"

Day 3
"When can i handle him"

Day 7
"OMG He shed"

^^^All these seperate threads/topics could all go into the Original "I got my Cham today" and would still get answered and would be kept organized

Just Saying....

I only get bothered when it's clear they haven't taken 10 minutes to look for themselves. Asking questions because you can't find something, or it wasn't clear, makes sense. Even saying, hey-- I got my new chameleon today.. look how awesome it is!!! that makes sense :) Asking about your whole setup.. etc. Asking when things get strange...

it's really the questions that take two seconds to search for... thats when I say "hit the button"

My thoughts exactly! And also the post right below ^^^ this one.

I always google search my questions after the forum name. It seems like it works better for any forum I use.

google does much better than the forum search. If you do enough google searches about chameleons, you'll find it offering you searches of this forum.

People are naturally lazy, so combined with a not so good search facility the repating of mundane threads will happen. However this is'nt a bad thing, for all the new guy's joining the forum they get to interact with the more experienced keepers on a kind of one 2 one basicis as apposed to reading 2nd hand threads all the time. To be honest this forum needs the injection of new blood ( and unfortunatly the repeating of old threads) because without new keepers this site to be honest would be really quiet.

JMO :D
