Hey guys, just wanted to know if rubber trees were safe for chams, I have one in my room outside of my lil guys enclosure and wanted to know if I could use it as a day playground for him bc it is rather big. Thanks

Yea. I have 1 in my cage, He never takes a bite out of it... just uses it for a bed at night lol.

I use to have one and asked the same question.. They are O.K. but it's the sap inside the leaves that is toxic. And it can cause dermatitis (i think) and can be bad if it gets into the chams eyes.

What sort of chameleon do you have? It's veileds that you need to be really concerned about munching on the vegitation. Some do and some don't but if you have a veiled I would really watch to be sure he/she isn't eating that plant.

If you have a panther or other, you should probably be ok.

I agree with Kat77. Monitor the situation and know what kinds of problems the plant could cause. The plant database linked below makes it seem worse than it really is - we need something like a 'semi-toxic' category. For someone looking to purchase a new plant, I recommend Schefflera arboricola or Ficus benjamina.
