Rocko the cham

New Member
hey guys! i made another video for rocko's setup just to see if i am doing everything right. he has kind of been worrying me lately because he has not been eating much and also because of how the top of his head is looking kinda weird (Not sure if its normal).

watch the video and leave some feedback.
tell me if he looks healthy and if i am doing everything correctly.

Thanks alot!!! :) you guys are the best!!!

Your setup looks pretty decent. The sunken casque might be because he is dehydrated. Have you seen him drink water. Maybe additional misting might help ya.

I would offer more variety in his feeders, might stimulate his appetite. Also you didn't mention a daily calcium without D3 in your video..... I also think the calcium w D3 and multivitamins should only be twice a month. I alternate on Sundays to make it easy. First Sunday is calcium w D3 and the next Sunday is multivitamin and so on. For sure mist more often and for a couple minutes to stimulate drinking.

When i first got my Jacksons Chameleon he'd never drink from the dripped either. Someone here on the forum suggested to use warmer water (maybe 10 deg or so warmer than room temp) and mist him directly to entice a drinking response.

Start with misting the cage and get a few drops on his tail and move upwards. That way he isnt shocked by the water spray. Initially he might not like getting wet but i think he'll come around in a few moments.

My chameleon loves his morning warm showers. He'll clean his eyes, and lap up water drops on his lips.

iv never wanted to spray him directly because i dont want to stress him. also i heard they could get sick from it, but i trust you and im gonna start misting him directly with warm water. thnx alot

Give it a shot. Start with few good seconds of spraying and over time increase the lengths. Just use good judgement. Good luck man!

Forgot to add in my earlier post, when shedding starts my chameleon drinks more water and seems to prefer more frequent mistings

alright. im pretty sure he will be shedding soon so this is very helpful. Btw does you cham also get abit grumpy when/before he sheds?

:) Hello and welcome to the forums. He looks good But, yes I would study up a little on the nutrition. See link below. Make sure you are dusting with plain calcium almost everyday and are you gut loading?

and this link is also great.

If he's about to shed you want him to stay hydrated. Maybe put him in a warm shower on his plants and have the spray hitting the wall and bouncing off onto the plant. Let him stay in for a little bit everyday.

Well i dont know about grumpy. i have a jacksons chameleon, and unlike a panther, my chameleon doesnt like climbing onto my hand at all and will go the opp. direction on a regular day.

However my chameleon usually stops eating a few days prior. He will go after hornworms and will avoid crickets and dubia. Thats kinda when i know he is going to shed

Thanks :)

yes im gut loading and i have started spraying him with a squirt bottle 3 times a day with slightly warm water for 2 min.

btw today i saw him poop and it was kinda bubbly. is that bad ???

Did he take the warm misting well? or did he run away. Just keep experimenting. see what works for you and for him. Ideally you want to see him lap up water droplets falling on his lips. Just make sure not to douse his nostrils with water. That'll open up a whole another bucket of worms.

When misting just make sure that the cage has dried out before the next round. I don't like keeping my cage constantly moist because I am worried that it can cause mold to grow.

As for the poop -- A picture might help here. I am sure you know that there are 2 parts. The Urate (pee) and the actual poop. If the Urate is pearly white, its safe to assume that the chameleon is well hydrated. Orange, I believe means that the chameleon can use more water and red means that's blood in the urine and I'd advise a trip to the vet.

Rocko actually took the misting very well today. i did what you told me and slowly started with his tail then work up to the rest of the body. sometimes he walks away sometimes he stays. but at one point today i was very patient with him and he got comfortable with the water and let me spray him for a solid minute. you helped alot man :) thanks

his last few poops have been very white so i guess thats good :)
