Rescue with tail damage.

Hello all,
I recently rescued a pair of veiled chameleons. They were giving away because the kids outgrew them stopped paying attention to them and they knew I would take care of them. The family had them for 5 months and I'm guessing they bought them very young because they had always been in one cage.( I have since separated them.) I have had them about 1 week and I noticed that the females tail is damage. I thought this was done to her by one of the old owners. It turned out to be the male. I saw him bite it and throw her down to the bottom of the cage. The tail looks dead to me and I thought that part might fall off? Will it? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If that was a human appendage, I would say it's devitalized tissue/dry gangrene, which will not heal.

I had an anole, and he hurt his tail and it looked like that after awhile and it fell off. I would take this cham to a vet. They will probably hack it off and tell you how to keep it from getting infected.

I second the vote for taking her to the vet to have it removed. It looks dead. No doubt the former owners thought: "they have always been together and they never fight". Perfect example of why chameleons should be kept in separate enclosures!

Go see a chameleon specialist vet, probably will amputate that damage part of the tail, and prescribed some antibacterial topical cream but the cham will live.
