So some of you know, I was sold 2 babies and they didn't make it, everyone has been saying everything I was doing was right, I have a feeling I was taken for a ride, as these were my first babies, I have cared for my adult for a year and a bit with regular vet checkups and fecals, with no problem.

I was looking for a reputable breeder to finally get some healthy and happy chams.


Any response would be appreciated.

I'm a little late to the party but I have some male Ambilobe babies that will be ready to go in a few weeks. You can check out my Facebook page at Red River Valley Exotics for more info. I'm located out of Winnipeg, MB. My clutch has been raised outdoors this year and is thriving - babies are showing bright blue barring, mostly. Attached is an example of a 3 month old from this clutch that has already found a new home.

Wild caught are not going to be any easier to care for - in fact, they will be more work with more risk as they need time to acclimate and will need to be checked/treated for parasites. I would recommend going with one of the Canadian breeders you have been suggested. I have used Captive Creations Canada several times and they are fantastic - I think they may only have Nosy Boraha babies at the moment, however.

I am not afraid of working with a vet. I know all the risks, and I am not afraid of work, what I don't want is babies that were never going to make it in the first place.

If you are looking for an animal that has a very high chance of thriving from day 1, go with a reputable breeder. If you want to take the risks involved with wild caught, you may end up with a beautiful and healthy specimen or you may end up with a sick animal. I have dealt with wild caught and would not recommend doing so for a pet only situation when there are so many great breeders here in Canada.

Obviously, it's your decision in the end so best of luck whatever choice you make! That really sucks to have lost those babies.

In that case, Chameleons Canada has come highly recommended to me by other Canadian breeders who have purchased from Edgar. I myself currently have a pair coming in on the next Madagascar import with him. So far, he's been good to deal with.

I originally reached out to Exotics International owned by Blane Ranger and was not enticed by his lack of responses to my inquiries over several weeks. He didn't seem to interested in having my business.
