Repti Sun 10.0 or 5.0??

I'm getting my cage set up for my newest cham and need some advice on which light to get.

The cage is 18 inches wide, 24 inches deep and 6 feet tall. All screen. Would a 5.0 be enough or should I go with the 10.0 because of the size? I think a 5.0 is fine since he will be able to get within at least 6 inches of the light.

What kind of screen? makes a big difference. When I used an aluminium screen cage I built, I used a 5, now im using exo-terras flexarium (black plastic looking soft mesh with heavy weave) I use a 10 because I think this mesh cuts more. (both linear tubes).

I'd be tempted with it being 6' tall to go with the 10.0 as it'll give you deeper penetration into the enclosure.

I have to agree that the mesh you're using will be a really big factor though!

Also, where will the basking spot be in relation to the bulb?

I use 10.0 on all my chams. The vet suggested it for pentration since they don't get much outside time. A 5.0 works great but if the care is deep and 6 ft is deep, you need to make sure they stay up high enough to get the required UVB. I choose not to take chances. The 10. doesn't put out more than the 5.9 all it does is go deeper. For me that is a no brainer. I keep thinking there must be something I am missing or everyone would use the 10.

The screen is the regular thin aluminum mesh. Double layer on top for durability. Not like the dark thick mesh reptariums.

Can there be any harm with using a 10.0 bulb on a smaller cage? I plan on buying a cage that is only 36" high. Can a 10.0 bulb harm a cham in any way? I plan on keeping the basking spots about 8" - 12" from the top of the cage.

If its a tube it wont harm your cham, it will simply penetrate deeper.
