There is a red powder added to calcium plus that looks a bit like blood when
mixed with water (falling on the wet cage floor).
I freaked out the first time I saw it, I thought Squee was bleeding, a few small drops on the floor. I inspected it, and discovered it was the CC, not blood.

This same red powder also makes my cham's urates an orange tint!!

I see paprika extract in the ingredients, maybe that's it!!??

Has anyone else noticed this?

I use it but I have not noticed it, but glad you mentioned it in the event I see something like this!

I use it occasionally. I've heard others comment on it. It's worth keeping in mind.:)

I would ask allen, but likely one of the ingredients like paprika.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure that's what it is, paprika.
It doesn't really bother me, now that I know what it is, but it did give me a
scare the first time I saw it

I have seem the red bloodlike spots multiple times, although I have not really noticed a orange urate tint. The bloodlike spots could definitely cause panic in an unaware owner. I think there should be some warning language on the package.

Overall, I love the product though.

If you ever see actual blood on the cage floor you'll definitely notice the difference, the reddish particles in the Calcium Plus are way more orange when wet and diluted than blood is. But sure, I can see where it would catch someone by surprise. It's obviously nothing to worry about though!
