well i just wanted to run past u guys on how im going to raise my veileds bearing in mind im in the uk and they will hatch in winter.

food
About 2-3 weeks before expected hatch date im going to get my fruit fly cultures going and get my crickets laying eggs but will also have bought pinheads just incase. I was also thinking samll silkworms and pheonix and maybe the odd roach nymth.

housing
I was going to have two large plastic tubs (2feet long) bearing in mind i have 60 eggs. I will have a 60 watt ceramic bulb on them set in the low to mid 80's. i will have a uv over the top of both cages. i will have vines live and plastic plants in both and a digital thermometer and hydrometer aswell.

Is there anything else i need to add plz put pics up of your babies cages
thanks
Brad

Why ceramic heat-I would use lightbulbs-even babies associate white light with basking heat. For 69 babies I used 3 tubs that were 27" long and 17" wide. Fruitflies are just about too small for Veileds. I would concentrate on crickets, and get large pins if you can. Until they were on quarter size crickets, you will go through 3000 crickets a week.

ok thanks is 3000 crickets for 60 babies i was gonna give around 10 a day for each baby have you got any pics oh and what light do you suggest as i think it geta annoying when is keeps turning on and off as they will be in my bedroom

silk worms dont move too much when they are little (unless they are feeding)
and might not catch the babies attention so grab a mulberry leaf and throw throw it in there. The worms will crowd over it, the chams will notice the commotion and start picking them off

i believe silk worms are a much better alternative than crickets because their calcium and nutrition levels and wont chew on your babies:D

I would be bankrupt feeding silkworms to baby Veileds. Not to mention I have never found that they were too interested in them anyways.

i would too unless i were to have a mullbery tree and be breeding my own

it is something worth trying and would be overall beneficial to your chams and your wallet if you are breeding and own a mulberry tree

im in the uk so no chance of that the only reason i thought f it was for a treat for them once in a wile they r real hard to get hold of and if u can get them you can only get micro ones you grow on
