I have been whining because my veiled seem to never hatch. Well I am sicker than s**t and found 3 babies today! The flu is no match for seeing your first chameleons hatch, I am in love. I have fruit flies but just called Ghann for pinheads. How do you keep fruit flies in the tank? Those little suckers are everywhere. I have like 23 more eggs so I will continue to wait patiently, ha-ha. These little guys are the best anniversary present I could have, guess I will call hubby to say they are here.

He wants to fly to Seattle of my birthday, mid april. Forget it I am not leaving home for a long time now!!!!!!!!!:):):)
 
Congrats! Can't wait to see pictures of the little ones. Sounds like you will be putting any trips off for a bit. :)

I know you are sick, but I think it is against forum rules to mention babies and not post pictures :D

A little piece of banana near the bottom of the tank should help retain some flies. Sometimes I also put a sheet over the top of the tank (except where the light it) during feeding times, to reduce fly escape routes

My baby ambilobes don't like pinhead crickets, they only like fruit flies. To keep everything where it is supposed to be this is what I do:

I have a plastic shoe box with a folded paper towel on the bottom. I then put a few plastic viney things with leaves on the bottom for them to climb on and sleep on. I then took an old nylon stocking (not control top) in a light color, tied each of the legs, cut them off, then slipped the top of the stocking over the entire shoe box. In go the babies, in go some fruit flies, voila! You can spray the top since they like to crawl upside down on the stocking. and that's where the fruit flies are. So far I have 7 in the shoe box and it is working out just great. When they get bigger and outgrow the fruit flies they will then just have to eat crickets, but for now it is working great. The oldest baby is 3.5 weeks old and the youngest just a few days. There is plenty of everything so the littlest one is not neglected.
 
Congrats Laurie! It is an awesome feeling, and you kept telling me how excited you were for them to hatch when you came to see my place. Next time though, order 1/8 crickets. The pinheads from Ghanns are so small they arent even worth messing with really. lol

I ordered pinheads and 1/16's both. Will that work? So far I haven't seen any of them eat or drink, but most of the time I can only find one of the three anyway. I know they are there but.............
 
They'll be fine watering wise, I wouldn't worry about them. As long as you are misting at least 3x daily and water is beading on the leaves, they are likely drinking without seeing them. As for the crickets, I start my baby panthers on 1/8, and they eat them no problem, and veiled hatchlings are larger. They might prefer flies if you offer them but they will eat 1/8 no problem. If you keep them on larger food items, they'll be ready for 1/4 in less than a month.

Isn't it fun?
Mine seemed a bit intimidated by the 1/8" crickets at first, but were eating hydei ... they're eating crickets now!
Didn't eat much or anything the first day or two ... don't worry;)
