questions on watering a ficus benjamine

Its in a weird spot so im not using a water tray for it. is this ok? i just kinda pour some water in it over the top of the cage cuse i have to much shit in the cage to continually get to it. How often to people usually water it?

Can you get a hand in to check the soil moisture? If the soil is dry, water it.
