Questions about Misting and Light Timing for Juv Veiled?

when i got my 2'x2'x4' cage i put it in this cutout in my wall. it fit perfect. there was about 4 inches on each side between the two walls and the back was right against the wall. BUT there wasent enough circulation of air and i got mold growing in my cage. boooo! i had to move it. lesson is make sure there is plenty of room in your closet so there will be good circulation with air and make sure you dont burn your house down.

What about in my closet? I have a walk in closet, its rather large, or would that be too cramped for him?

I get home at 9pm, I need to at least change and stuff before I go to bed, I guess I can do it in my bathroom so I don't disturb him.

the less disturbances after sunset the better.
as long as there is good airflow, it will work.
the chameleon might b ok for a while, but i worried about your sanitary..

between wet misting and dripper... and the fact that closet is quite too easy to get humid..
Mold will soon start to grow..
when it grows, then it's bad for you and your chameleon..
I have minor mold growing on my wall
so, i wipe it with bleach and do some major cage construction..
for now it seems to be ok.. the wall is no longer wet during the misting.

Alrighty, i'll need to figure out something, we are college guys so there is typically people over at night, not in my room but I go in and out a few times before bed, maybe if I leave the lights off and be quiet he will be fine?

He will only be in that smaller tank until he is 4-5 months, then I plan on building a larger cage for him, thanks, ill watch out for mold.

yes. that's what i do. I am in college too.
I slightly angle my cage and cover one side with breathable shower curtain.
And I realize he does not wake up when i turn on my laptop.
and using the light from my laptop, I navigate around my dark room..
:p
It's lame i know... But as soon as I get my own house...he'll get his own room.
that and i'm a bit concern by that time i might have more than one chameleon..
:D

Consider yourself warned, man! I thought i can settle on having just 1.. but i am starting to think to buy another one on march.. Hopefully i will have a bigger place by then (i'm probably gonna rent a house with my friends).

i got a crazy idea, you might be able to put up a sheet or something to keep out the sight of you moving around a lot. it wont block all the light but i sometimes turn my light on and do things and my cham sometimes wakes up. he just looks and me and i say sorry and turn off the light. i have a ciclid tank in the opposite corner so i leave that on so i can move around and not stub my toes. i think if you put up a sheet you can go in and out as you please as long as its not see threw. if you get a black one and hang it from the ceiling it will block a lot of light.

That sounds like a good idea, I will consider putting a sheet up!

What is the best way to find local breeders? Newspaper?

if you have a good reptile store by you you can ask them in they know anyone. you can go to kingsnake.com or something like that. make sure the breeder you get it from knows what they are doing. the more well known the better information you can get. id go with a very well known breeder the next time i get a cham. i got mine from a reptile store that is pretty good. they know their things about some reptiles.

There is a really god reptile store by me, but they only have a 6 month old jackson right now, they want $200 for it, which seems kind of steep to me.

Are jacksons easier to handle compared to male veiled?

I would like to try to handle him when he is young, so it wont be so hard when he gets older, it would be nice to be able to take him outside to bask when it gets warm again.

i wouldent pay that much for a jacksons. id just pay another $100 or so and get a panther. but jacksons are different not harder. i never had one and i was going to get one because when i was little i used to love the horns, but i chose not to because i wasnt sure i would be able to keep up the humidity to what they like. now i think i would have no problem because i have a turtle tank and a fish tank so my relative humitity in my room is always about 70%. go and ask them if they can order one for you. they might be able to get you one. i did see someone on the fourms here with some for sale and that might be a better idea. my cham doesnt like to be held even tho i did hold him about once a week sence he was 2-3 months old and hes about 6 months now. some wont like it at all and some will love you and all that jazz.

I called about 20 pet stores today, all that I could find in the phonebook, none of them had any chams!

Hopefully I find a few in the newspaper.

My room is about 50% humudity typically, so I will have to keep an eye on that.
