hey guys, i just got a kammer sambava panther chameleon about a weeek ago. He is 8 months old. I made sure I put on leather gloves and I slid my hand really slow from the front of the branch to where he is. First, he just walked away a bunch of times with the chin hanging down which means hes flarring up. Than he was in the perfect spot to get him I did the same thing and he flarred up opened his mouth and than bit my finger. Thank God I didnt feel because of the gloves but how do I get him to come out?

Some Chameleons just won't tolerate handling. Try hand feeding for a while to get him used to you.

he looks beautiful. You are at a little bit of a disadvantage cause he is a little older. I think it is easier if you raise and handle them from a baby as it would be with any other pet. Open the cage door, place a large plant outside of the door and see if you can get him to come out on the plant. then maybe try handling him. Try to hand feed him also, so he does not see your hand as something threatening. Hoepfully, in time he will mellow, but some never do. You have only had him a week and that is not very long at all for him to get used to you.
I really dont want to use my hands to pick up the crickets. Can I use the 10" tongs?
I have been hand feeding him for the last 4 days. How long does it take for them to get used to you?
The person who I bought it from said that it took him 2 months to get him out.
I actually have the screen door open now and he is sitting at the front branch. I dont have a plant out though. The person also said that they just left the door open and he sometimes came out, but than again it took that 2months

I'd use your hands for the crickets if at all possible. Just keep trying, but recognize when enough is enough for the day. You don't want to stress him out.
why how much different is it than the tongs?

If you want to be able to handle him u must hand feed. Get over ur fear of touching the insects and just do it... It takes time to get used to it but it's a small sacrifice to make to gain the trust of ur Cham

yeah, isnt yours green? That is the Sambava resting colors. They are green and when they fire up they are yellow with red, orange barring.
so your saying that he will get like yours?
i want him to stay those colors because i have a odre ahy that is going to be orange and yellow.
where did you get yours?

The Sambavas will never be orange and yellow all the time. Just when they get mad or upset or see a female. They are generally green with dark maroon barring. The pics you see on the breeders website is not their resting colors. They are going to post the prettiest pics to get you to buy their offspring. Kammer have beautiful chameleons. Poncho was his sire and he has been retired for about 2 years. He may not even be with us anymore as he was getting older.
