Tylene she is lovely. She weights more than the quad I just bred! Mine is both older and smaller. You have a good girl going. You should get with Bill have have babies. Just make sure the male he mates her with is not her brother, as he has her brother. Also for me supplying the idea and telling you who has a male, I should get a baby. It doesn't matter that all the info I gave you is info you already have does it. she really is nice.

I'm amazed by her weight at only 8 months! Have you housed her outdoors at all? Please tell us what supplements and frequencies you use. Also, do you use a particular feeder as a staple (roaches and/or crickets?) and what other feeders do you frequently use? I have 9 month old quads that don't weigh nearly as much. Although they appear quite normal, I'm thinking about what I might do differently. I sure would like to know what the average wild 8 month old quad weighs. I can't help but think I'm missing something because I feel they should be bigger, especially now that I've read your post. :) Although many of us use a staple feeder (in my case Dubia roaches), in the last couple of weeks, I've put much effort in providing more variety of feeders. It must be working because they are all currently shedding and eating more. I'm sure they must have been bored with being fed primarily roaches and black soldier fly larvae.

How often does she drink? Does she climb upside to get the droplets off the screen or is she drinking from the leaves? And how often does she feed?

Laurie, I knew I would get your attention! Of course you can have a baby!

She has been housed inside since I got her at 2 weeks old. She was too tiny to put outside, then it was too hot, now it's too cold since she hasn't been acclimated. I will be putting her outside as soon as the temps get better here.

She eats primarily crickets, silkies, hornworms, and superworms. Occasionally soldier flies and mantids. She never really liked house or BB flies (which everyone says is weird) or dubia (and of course I have a ton of them.) I supplement with Repashy Calcium plus once or twice weekly. This one, a panther and a k. matschiei have been the first babies I've raised on this supplement. They are all doing great.

Her Raindome goes off twice daily and she will drink from the leaves and the screen.

Ah, but you are happily mistaken! I have a sister...all my males are fair game!

Calcium Plus once or twice a week? Is there a reason you sometimes use it twice a week versus once a week? Has she ever developed an edema of any sort? I assume you also have UVB lamps on her too? If so, what kind and brand? I use Mega-Ray mercury vapor bulbs. Do you use linear fluorescents?

I use Calcium Plus once or twice a week depending on the feeder. And my memory! No edema.
I use 4ft dual lights on her, one 5-0 repti-sun and a GE Ecolux daylight. She also has a 38w heat lamp thats on for 8 hrs. Most cool mornings she will bask.

I'd like to see pictures of your quads too.

Here's a couple that are 9 months old. They're only 13 grams!!! I sure hope they'll eventually catch up with yours. I can't help but believe they should be bigger. Maybe not as big as yours, but it would be nice if they were at least 20 to 30 grams heavier. :)

I wonder if the fact that you regularly use superworms and silkies is a major reason your 8 month old female weighs so much more than my 9 month olds. It's been said time and time again that variety is key, not only to overall health but apparently faster growth too. What should be obvious, and I feel I know, many of us unfortunately don't always put into practice. It's not until I see the dramatic size difference between our quads, of nearly the same age, that the reality of it all really hits home. Don't get me wrong. I have fed variety, including field sweepings, mantids, hornworms etc., but I'm suspecting I haven't given enough variety overall during the entire 9 months they have been growing. As stated elsewhere, for the past few months, I've mainly fed dubias and phoenix worms Superworms are not part of my quads' diets. I haven't used them in ages because I've been bitten by them one too many times. :D When I try to use silkworms, I've had too many die offs. I tried feeding them mulberry leaves instead of the artificial diet, but I think the leaves dried out too quickly, and overall, the humidity wasn't high enough or something. I've avoided crickets for the most part for various reasons, but adding them and hornworms (which I'm now trying to breed) recently has gotten the babies to eat more overall resulting in weight gain and another shed in all of them. I guess the babies were somewhat bored with what has been mostly Dubia and Phoenix worms over the last several months. In a similar way, any of us I'm sure would be bored with a diet consisting of mostly sardines and crackers. I'd bet we wouldn't eat as much and we'd all lose a few pounds. ;)

Are you sure your scale is accurate? They look bigger than 13g.
I only started feeding supers recently, but she sure likes them. Only one, once or twice a week. I want her to still eat other things.:)

You bring up an excellent point! I just weighed an unopened 1.81 kg (4 lbs) bag of sugar. The scale read 1.844 kg. If the bag weighs about .03 kg, or 30 g, then the scale should be pretty accurate. I'll have to weigh something of much less mass. It might not be as accurate under those conditions. I'll check. Thanks for bringing that up.

A nickel weighs 5 g ;)

I'm reading 6 g on a 2012 nickel. My scale only reads to the nearest gram. Does it matter what year the nickel is? I know different coins change metal content, etc. over the years.

Nope should still weigh 5g... i would try multiple nickels and see if its still off by the same amount as weight is added too
