Quad mating

Thanks everybody! She's doing great, eating and drinking like a champ this morning. Hoping the eggs are fertile!

Awesome Tylene! Way to go! I'm super excited for all you folks with quad eggs cooking. It's so awesome to see so much success in captivity with this species.

Thanks Chad! So far so good. Mom doing well and eggs look fine. I just think the males are so awesome, can't wait for babies. At least I won't have to wait a year or more!

So awsome. Big congrats!!!. I'm still watching my eggs close. The time is gettin near that I hope to see some babies.
I hope each and every egg provides you with a healthy lil quad.

Thanks Hoj!

Just a question for you quad people-Will she have another clutch from this mating? And if so, when should I expect her to lay? Thanks

Yes, but it is always best to reintroduce the male in between clutches to ensure that all of the eggs get fertilized. How long in between clutches depends on many factors, mostly based on age and health of the female as well as temperature and humidity. Mine used to lay as soon as 4-6 weeks apart, but about 8 weeks was closer to average.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you! :)

So she is back up to 86g! And looks very gravid again, it's only been 3 weeks.

Could you imagine giving birth and then doing it again a month or so later?

I have to question everyone who feels chams are so fragile. These girls we have are tougher than I ever was.

Tylene I will weight Annie tomorrow and see what she weights. She doesn't look all that big, last time she looked like a football with feet.

You must be taking good care of her then. :) My female quads were hardier than the males because they never went on hunger strikes if my feeder selection was limited.

I only lost one in five years. She was very gravid and got trapped between a plant pot and the walls of her enclosure, only hanging downwards by her tail. She was smothered by the weight of the egg mass. I found her lifeless body hanging there after work one day. I incised her and removed the eggs. They all hatched.

I stopped using potted plants from that day forward. My cages have bottom tubs that I plant directly into.

What a sad story! Sorry to hear that. I can see that happen. I had to move pots around twice to get her out from being stuck between them on the bottom. Then I had the tray idea, glad I didn't wait any longer.

BTW, the eggs look good and are getting bigger:D

Yes sad, even after 15 years it still bothers me.

On a positive note, I'm no longer a "junior member" here, LOL. Good to hear your eggs are doing well. :)

Well, my female FINALLY decided to lay her second clutch! After many days of searching and test digging. 13 eggs later, she looks great, eating and drinking, a little worse for wear. She lost 18g.

I took pictures of the new eggs and one of the new eggs next to the largest from the first clutch that has been incubating for 12 weeks, big difference!

Fantastic Tylene, it is such a relief to know they are ok. How many eggs are in the first clutch? Our girls really are just doing this whole thing together aren't they? Only a little over a month and the babies will start showing up.:):)

Thanks. She looks great today, thirsty and hungry!

I still have 8 eggs from the first clutch. And now another 13! Time sure creeps by when you are waiting for them to hatch!;)

We have babies!

First one hatched yesterday and another today!

I know pictures are required when talking about babies; so here are a few:D

Baby #1 is 1g, baby #2 is 0.8g still with yolk attached.
