Prolapse please help!!

So sorry to read this... Sometimes they do not handle surgical intervention well. Prolapses can happen with males and females. I do not believe you did anything wrong at all. You gave him love and the husbandry he needed. You immediately got him into the vet. You made sure he had the medical attention he needed. Unfortunately these guys are just fragile and they can go down suddenly. In my experience they leave a mark on your heart. I still have not fully recovered from losing Beman. Sending hugs and I am so sorry you are going through this. ❤️
Thank you, I'm sorry again about Beman 💔

So sorry that you lost your chameleon. You did everything you could for him. Sometimes the whole thing is just too much for them to deal with. I can only imagine how painful it might be.

Prolapses are one of the hardest things to deal with…it’s not always clear why it happened ..so figuring out if there is more going on than just the prolapse is always a concern/problem. It’s so traumatic to the chameleon IMHO, to put it back in and keep it there that some/most of them can’t cope with the trauma. In addition to that, there are issues like how to keep it in while letting the poop pass… many times the prolapses recur. There’s the issue of preventing any bacterial or fungal infections from occurring (because that moist surface is exposed to those possibilities while it’s hanging out). Should they be put on medications to prevent these possibilities…or will that cause more issues? It’s a definite crap shoot.

Your vets, IMHO seemed to know what to do and you cared enough to take good care of your chameleon.

Again…sorry for your loss. Keep him in your heart! ❤️

“Mycotic digestive tract infections are uncommon in lizards. One report describes a fatal mycotic enteritis (phycomycoses) in a Jackson’s chameleon (Chameleo jacksoni).19 The chameleon presented with a rectal prolapse. Fungal hyphae were seen in the mucosa, submuscosa, tunica muscularis, and serosa of an intussusception of the terminal colon. One fungal oral lesion is described in a lizard. This fungal mandibular periodontal osteomyelitis was successfully treated in a panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis).

Oh noooo. I'm sorry you lost your little love. He was blessed to have such a caring mom! I hope once you feel up to it again you can open up your heart to another one. You really gave him the best life possible and did all you could for him.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet boy. To echo other people's sentiments, know you did everything you could for him. ❤️ I get it though. I never knew a tiny tree dragon, who barely tolerates my presence most days could capture my heart. Sending you virtual hugs.
