problem with Carletto

Carletto

New Member
Hi everyone, i'm little worried about my Carletto! a veiled chameleon. He is around five months now and was growing at a very quick rate so i decided it was time for an upgrade on his enclosure. i have noticed the last week or so he had gone a bit off his food well i thought he was just being fussy because he wouldn't eat crickets anymore and just wanted mealworms, and the last few days i have found him wandering around the bottom of his cage. so today we did the transfer into his large enclosure but when i put him in he went to the bottom of the cage and was pacing up and down. is this normal? any advice would be much appreciated, thanks

ok Carletto is around five months i'm guessing, i've had him since a hatchling and i got him in november 2011.
i don't handle him very often if i had to say how often i would say once a fortnight.
i have been feeding him crickets and mealworms, he used to love crickets and would eat about 8-10 each day. but recently he will only eat mealworms.
as for supplement i dust his insects with calcium, twice a month with d3 and vitamins once a month.
i have been hand misting his cage 5 times a day and he has a little dripper. i have invested in a mist machine for his new enclosure.
his feces is white and darkbrown
he has a .5 uvb light and a heat lamp.
his basking temp is 30degrees celcius and bottom of cage is around 20. night time temp is around 17.
humidity is between 60 and 70
He was in a screen cage 35cmx30cmx60cm his new enclosure is also a screen cage 55cmx55cmx100cm.
in his small enclosure he had a pothos in his new enclosure he has a benjamin tree and a pothos
his cage is place right to a large window which gets sun in the morning and is above eye level.
i live in rome, italy and we have just gone from winter to spring.
hope this helps?

Its possible hes too hot.
his basking temp is 86 deg F (im in US) and if he is also near a window, that can cause the temps to go up, so hes going to the bottom of the enclosure to get cooler.

can you post photos of him?

i will move his basking spot a bit further away but it is a large cage and there is no other heat source, i'm thinking there are alot of other places for him. could this effect his apetite too?

yes i did! but he has been doing this in his old cage too. i just checked on him and he has moved higher up in the cage

i just measured his basking temp in his new enclosure and it was a bit hot, i have adjusted it now. any ideas on his eating habits?

hes growing, hes bored with his food, hes too unsettled from moving into a new cage, he was too hot.

adults tend to eat less.
my male is over a year old, and only eats about 5 large crickest every two days.

i came home today to find Carletto pacing at the bottom of his cage again. yesterday afternoon he moved back to his basking spot and last night he slept on the highest point of his cage but this morning he went straight back down, i think he has also stopped eating doesn't look like he's even touched his mealworms. i'm getting really worried now!!

please post photos of him!

are you sure about your basking spot temps?

also, post photos of his set up

here are some pix not sure if i did it right!

I think... he is a she.

which explains the being on the bottom of the cage.
not a great pic, but i dont see yellow bars coming in, and i dont think i see a tarsal spur.
