I have had my chameleon for about three months now he lives in a screen inclosuer and has all the apropriate lighting, water, and plants. This morning when I went into his bed room I noticed that he has one eye closed shut. When I got close and looked at it I noticed he was moving his eye but his eye lid would not open at all even when I put a fe crickets in his cage he wanted to eat them and tried but missed due to only having one eye.. Any suggestions?? Is there a drop I can give him? He does get all his vitamins daily and he is misted twice a day along with a dripper that goes all day as well. HELP ME PLEASE :(

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. This morning one eye would not open.

So for now you need to mist, mist & mist that eye with water that is just a bit warmer than room temp. This will allow him to clean his eyes and to get any think off that is causing he to keep the eye closed.

You need to bring those temps down. that basking temp of 95 is way to hot. i would go for 85 for basking and low 70's for the bottom of the cage. At least down to 75. You still have a baby they need lower temps.

Let me know if these two ideas help.

Vitamins should be given only 2x a month and vitamin w/D3 2x a month. You did not mention calcium and he should be given that every other day. The calcium should be plain with no phosphorus. Large crickets at 5 mos old seem big to me. Feeders should be no larger than the space between the chams eyes. Gutloading is super important in your feeders and most used are collard or turnip greens, dandelions, sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, orange or apple and cricket crack. The better the feeders are fed the healthier your chameleon will be.

Can you post a picture of your cham and his enclosure?

Do I just mist his eye? I know he hates when I mist him.

NO! use a warm mist and start on the leaves and work your way to him starting at his tail. If he freaks, back off but keep misting in the area so he knows you are not attacking him with the water. Did he shed recently? Sometimes a piece of shed will get in the eyes.

See the info I read was they should have vitamins everyday untill they are one year old. The cricket size is still small even for Large cricket they are not really that big. What about meal worms are they any good? I do feed my crickets, cricket food but I guss I should start feeding them more real food. I do not have a cage pic but I can take one tonight. Here are pics of him and you can see some of the cage however its been changed around a little since the pics.

He sheded about a few weeks ago so I dont think that is the issue. He had his eyes open yesterday just fine and it was just this morning I noticed it when he keeped missing the crickets and I was woundering why his aim was off then I noticed he was only looking thru one eye. I could see him moving his eye ball under the lid but he would not open it even when I was petting his tail.

His closed eye could have something to do with over-supplementing with vitamins. I would stop using them for about a month. What about calcium with no phosphorus, do you use that? Mealworms are not good staple feeders, he would do better with some silkworms, hornworms, gutload superworms (same as cricket gutloading).

Did you say you were "petting his tail"? One does not usually pet a chameleon, tail or any other part. That is stressing to them.

Yes I did but it was just this once to see if his eye would open it was more of a oh i feel bad for him type of moment. He is my baby and I hate that I dont know why his eye is messed up. I usually dont touch him at all because he does not like anyone too near him.

His eye issue is due to too much vitamins IMO, see my post above. What about calcium?

Okay so no mitamins for a month right? I only use the three that I listed thats all I was told to use when I purchased him. Any good suggestions of where to get the kind of calcium you suggested? Also with gutloading my crickets do I just buy veg. at the store and just put them in the cricket cage instead of the cricket food I feed them now?

Look on our sponser's websites for "RepCal" Calcium no phosphorus. Yes, just buy the veg at the look grocery store in produce section, wash throughly and put more greens and veg than fruit. Easy on the oranges and use maybe once a week. The citrius in oranges can upset your chams stomach. ;)

I do give him Repcal twice a week. So what about the eye should I just mist him and if he does not open soon take him to the vet?

Does the RepCal say "Calcium no phosphorus" with a blue label? Repcal also makes a vitamin too. Another reason for eye issues could be a respitatory infection. Does he have his mouth open, popping or wheezing noise, deep breathing? If not, then I would say it's the over-supplementing of vitamins. Seeing a vet is never a bad idea, it would be wise to take him in and print your questionnaire you completed.

Maybe you could post a pic of his eye.

Is the UVB light a long linear tube light or a spiral/compact?
Which bulb is the ReptiSun Basking Spot Lamp? Can you show a pic. of it please?

No his mouth stays closed and there is no weezing or any breathing issues at all. Not sure about the Repcal I will look tonight I will also take a few pics of his cage and the bulbs.
