Possible Cover over Terrarium?

Okay so I have a young veiled and I wake him up at 700 and put him to bed at 830. I have to wake up at 6-630 monday to friday, and I havent turned any of my lights on when I wake up so I wont wake him. I turn his light on when I leave for work. I was wondering if its a good or a bad idea of putting some sort of cover, my dad suggested a dark blue flannel sheet we have to cover the terrarium so that when I wake up I can turn on my lamp and not wake up the cham earlier than he's supposed too. I dont want to drape it directly onto the terrarium, I would rather have a space between the sheet and terrarium. Would this be a bad idea?

You can buy a timer for lights.

I just use a low watt light bulb in a lamp. The lamp is on the opposite side of the room. I mostly use the bathroom for bright lights (mirror). Seems to work for me.
