poop

Today my chameleon Mini B pooped and it was not runny but it looked a little different, soft like but still terdy. He normally eats a mixture of crickets and meal worms but lately he has only been interested in the meal worms. Is that normal? And if it is, would it change the look of his poop?

Yes, is it moist and a step above runny? Thats normal. They say to be stingy with the meal worms because there arent a lot of nutrients in them. Like for a treat like a cookie for your kid. Me, ive been ok giving meal worms. Id recommend not giving a lot to baby chams. Just my opinion...

Thank you for your answer. He is almost 9 months old. And I made the mistake of giving them to him as meals so now he doesn't want to eat the crickets. Maybe one or two every few days but he will eat those worms in huge amounts if I let him.
What do you suggest that I do to get him back on track?

there are a few different things you can try but nothing is a guarantee. It seems many of us that feed worms while feeding crickets have trouble with our chams refusing the crickets then and only wanting the worms. i am guessing it is like hamburger and steak to a chameleon or something!!! I too had my chameleon stop eating crickets at about that same age. You can try offering no food for a few days and then just try the crickets and no worms. you can try starving him so to speak until he gives in to the crickets. Or you can do what I did and cave in and feed him the worms! lol! Try feeding some silkworms, they are a nutritious feeder and lowfat like a cricket. I have kind of made them my staple. I reintroduce the crickets every so often but have little luck. The only way I get him to eat them is pull the sneak attack, and when he is eating a worm, I slide one in his mouth and he will usually take it!:D

I kinda dont want to starve him either. I am going to try the silkworms and see how that works out. I just kind of thought that he was supposed to eat crickets mostly but to hear that I am not the only one who has the same "issue" so to speak is good. Thank you for your insight!!!! :D

Its normal for chameleons to get hooked on mealworms and back off the crickets. If i was giving you a wendy baconator everyday and then threw in some soy burgers (bad example yuck!!) youd want another baconator. If you want him to back off the worms just leave crickets in there. If hes hungry he will eat them. People say lots of meal worms are bad but i never saw proof myself but thats me. Maybe someone else has?

I bought a can of silkworms. I cant get my cham to eat them. Do you guys use a vibrating dish? Or do you get live ones? I hear live ones are pricey.

Well Crewdogg15 I'd have to say that sounds kinda nasty too if you put it that way! LOL! I am just glad to know that this is normal. Mini B is my first Chameleon and I love him sooo much!

Just be worried if hes not pooping. Lol. I thought my cham wasnt pooping and was scared. Turned out, he was crapping in the bushes! Lol

I use super worms which can be gut loaded better which makes them a better choice over meal worms, but still recommend the silkies, horn worms, and butter worms which are very high in calcium
