So I have a 7 month Oustalet's and I took him to the vet three days ago because he would not eat for a week, was having diarrhea and began prolapsing. When I got to the vet he was able to fix the prolapse and put his intenstines back in, but didn't put stiches in. He also gave my Cham a wide-range antibiotics in case he had a bacterial infection as well as an anti-inflammatory.
The next day after the vet visit my Cham looked terrible. His eyes are now completely sunken in, has no strength and now he prolapses about every 6 hours. I already spent $200 for a worthless vet visit.
For the past three days I have been force-feeding him a slush of crickets and super worms, and giving him pedialite to keep him hydrated.

Does anyone know methods to prevent my Cham from prolapsing? I do not want to go the vet again and just want my cham to not be in pain for the little time he I think he has left :(

i have never dealt with it but have read to submerse the private area in cold sugar water. I am not 100% sure this is for an intestinal prolapse though. I have seen this done with a hemipenal prolapse in male chameleons. Other than that, I think putting stitches in is the only way to go. Honestly, with what you are describing, I don't think he has long to live. When their eyes sink in, they are usually near the end. It can also mean dehydration, but can also mean end of life.

PM ferritinmyshoes...she's a vet and could give you good advice.
When the moist tissues are prolapsed you have to keep them moist with K-Y jelly so they won't die. He's likely in a lot of pain and due to the swelling can't pass feces so he won't likely eat. If something isn't done ASAP you're going to lose him. The vet could have put in a purse string suture which would keep the prolapse in and let the feces out. Also, when a chameleon prolapses it can develop a fungal infection too from the tissue hanging out.
