my yemen is laying unfertile eggs , she has laid 3 , the size of american jellybeans .this has been going on for well over an hour. she is on a branch and seem s to be pushing and toiling i dont know what to do can you get back please

Not uncommon..........

It's not that uncommon for females to lay infertile eggs that way. I've had several females do this even when put in proper egg laying bins. Did you have anything set up for her in preparation for egg laying? You can still put her in a big bucket, small trash can filled with substrate (sterilized dirt/sand, cocoa fiber, etc). Put some sort of branch in the container for her to sit off the substrate. Cover it or make sure it's big enough that she can't get out of it. She may or may not start digging. The females I've had that layed their infertile eggs while perched on a branch completed the process and recovered just fine. They seemed to know the eggs weren't worth the effort of burying. They decide to just relax on a branch and spit them out. They usually take all day to do this. Recovery requires hydration first and then food later. Hydration is more important that eating a lot right after laying. The hunger and eating will come soon. Hope this helps.

Get her a laying bin now! It needs to be big enough for her to fit in with a few inches to spare on all sides including abov her. It should have clean play sand or organic soil with no fertilizers in it and should be 10-12 inches deep.

Once she gets that just leave her alone.

Also....

Also.....have you felt her to see how packed with eggs she seems to be? If she goes for hours without popping any more out she may be egg bound. If so she may require vet attention. Keep us updated.

Even with a laying bin, I have had them just push out eggs all over the cage floor. Others will lay in the bin as expected. If the eggs are unfertilized, than I dont think it matters if they just drop to the bottom as you will be discarding them anyway.

eggs

would it be ok to put her in a bucket in the middle of her laying. ive had a very quick look .shes still trying to squeeze there is three eggs. it seems like forever its 8.15pm shes started this at 3pm
thanking u for help please

its now 9.50pm .still squeezing .im checking from distance.no more eggs.will she be like this all night ?will i put her lights out ?she still looks packed.if the eggs are the size of beans ,how many more should i expect ?
sorry if im being a pest , im worried about her
thanks

Did you put a laying bin/container in her cage for her to use? Lily laid her first clutch in a soil/playsand mix in an old 4 litre icecream tub. Just make sure that the medium is damp enough to hold it's shape. Lily's first clutch was 104 infertiles, and from start to finish the whole process lasted about 15 hours or so.

It may be time to take her to the vet.

If she is not using a laying bin, there may be something wrong with what you provided. Or, there may be something wrong with her.

If she is interrupted (sees you watching her, for example) or has trouble digging a tunnel (for example an inadequte medium results in multiple tunnel collapses) she could go towards egg binding, and death.

she has damp play sand in a shallower tub so that she can choose to go in our out .its in the bottom of her viv.she is choosing to sit on a branch and squeeze , is this ok ?if not , should i still try to put her in a bucket with warm sand ?im cared this will upset her. the 3 eggs she laid are as big as jelly beans.thankyou for helping me

I would take her to the vets before you lose her if she has not shown any interest in digging but seems to keep straining to lay the eggs. Has she done any digging at all?

she started digging on and off. so i put the sand tub in but she never used it.i have been trying to leave her alone .we dont even go in the kitchen unless we tiptoe in.im frightened to try anything else.she dosnt seem to be digging anymoe but im not there , so i dont know.ive been trying to read as much as poss.On one care sheet it said you can wait up to 5 days others say not all chams use bins for laying
should i offer her food and water .

With all the eggs pushing her abdomen, she won't eat.

Just wondering however, since I believe you have not mentioned it in the thread... Without bugging the chameleon and her cage, do you remember the dimensions of your bucket? and how deep is the sand layer?

It should be bigger. Get one as big as you can. Some even use a small trash can.
