Please help, I think Larry hurt his tongue :/

Larry has been letting me hand feed him as of late and its gotten to the point where if he sees my hand he runs up to it expecting food. Just a moment ago he got my hand and he squeaked and pulled his tongue back. A moment later he started pushing it out in a strange way. I tried giving him another cricket and he tried to shoot his tongue out and it didn't go very far. He tried again and the same thing happened. He got really close and pushed his tongue out to eat it. His tongue almost looked inverted and I'm terrified he may have hurt it. Any advice that I can get would be appreciated. I'm assuming he may need to go to the vet tomorrow.

He may need to go to the vet tomorrow but give him a few minutes to try and get back to normal. If he still has trouble then I would head to the vet tomorrow. good Luck.

I'm hoping it's cleared up by tomorrow and if it's not ill take him in. I just feel awful about it :/

Don't get into thinking you are at fault. I always do that, it is self defeating. You didn't do anything wrong and neither did Larry. What he did was natural and could have happened anytime he saw something that looked like food to him. Just know you are doing everything you can for him and we will all hope it is fine. Let me know how it goes.

I agree with everything that Laurie said.
It is not your fault.
I'm sure he will be fine in the morning. But if not, then a vet is needed.

I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted.

I'll definitely keep everyone posted on how he is doing. Larry is my little guy and I will obviously do whatever I can for him. Thanks for the kind words and advice everyone :)

I agree that its not your fault but I don't think the stress of taking him to the vet is the best choice in this instance. Unless he bit his tongue, tore it off, or created some other type of open wound that would require antibiotics (from the sound of it, this is not the case), there really isn't anything I'm aware of the vet will be able to do in this instance. More than likely he strained one of his tongue muscles trying to retract it and just needs some time to let it heal and situate itself. I would keep an eye on him and make sure he is drinking alright tomorrow, but unless he is showing another symptom that should be treated, I don't think the stress of taking him to the vet would be any benefit. Keep a close eye on him, make sure he is drinking and otherwise acting fine, give him a day off eating, and see if he is able to feed alright tomorrow night or Wednesday morning.

Morning folks. I just gave Larry a couple crickets to see if his tongue was back to normal and he seems pretty alright for the most part. I'm going to skip feeding him until tonight just so he has some time to rest his tongue. He stopped showing stress colors when I was hand feeding him (took a good little while) and now he is back to being cautious around me. All things considered I really can't complain. He seems better and I'm sure he will get more familiar with me again as time goes by.

Thanks everyone for your comments and concern, I greatly appreciate it.

Glad to see he is doing better. Nice to see that all he needed was a little time to let his strained tongue heal.
