Plant questions

Where does everyone get their plants?? I live in northern Indiana and none of the greenhouses are open yet, still a month - month and a half before they will. I was kind of hoping not to have to order from somewhere and avoid paying shipping costs and such. It's also still cold here, didnt want a plant left out for a few hours in the cold if it arrived while I wasn't home. Does anyone know of any national stores that have any of the safe plants for sale year round?? Oh.. and what kind of "dirt" should I replace what it comes planted in with?? Brands? A "certain type"? I know it shouldn't have fertilizer in it.

You can get most of the ficus plants and schefflera at Home Depot and Walmart and places like that...replace the soil with soil without fertilizers and vermiculite. Wash the leaves with warm soapy water and rinse well.

Thank you, do you know if it's something they usually have year round?? I know a lot of places locally don't do much with plants until early spring....

Why is it so difficult?

Well I went out searching this weekend... No one has plants around here yet. They all told me early-mid april. I just happened to be by a wal-mart today and stopped in. Woohoo!!! They had plants, not many, but a couple that I wanted. I counln't find any soil without fertilizers or miracle-gro though. Can anybody point me in a direction on that? Brand name or something?? So I know what to look for.

Eh? the miracle grow organic potting soil I bought was just potting soil, organic blend. There was no miracle grow in it :)

Miracle grow was the brand name, no miracle grow was in it.
