Pfiffer's Chameleon

Hey I was wondering what exactly I'd need to house a male Pfiffer's Chameleon. I'm very interested in the species.:)

Try looking under the adcham profile for the Pfeffer's chameleon, (T.pfefferi), they are a montane species from Cameroon so you can expect high humidity and low temps. An 18x 18x36 would work well for one of these guys, you may want to cover 3 sides with either tarp or plexiglass to help maintain a high humidity as well as adding soil with proper layering. (hydroton balls, aquarium charcoal, soil). Ofcourse you would also need lots of plant coverage and a weak basking spot. I like to use a 25 watt housebulb. Just to provide a weak basking spot for montanes although if you do decide to use the plexiglass even a 25 would be overkill being the heat with reflect off of the glass making it hotter than it should.

Thanks! Is there anything specific you would suggest?

A panther chameleon would be a better choice being that they are more tolerant of error, and there is more room for mistake with them. I also might add the Pfefferi require a 20 degree drop at night.

I have a Panther right now, and I'm looking to get one more chameleon that's a smaller. Well thank you very much I'll take what you said into consideration and do some research :) if you have anything at all to add I'd appreciate that as well! :)

If your looking for a smaller species that has care similar to a Pfefferi, but is more tolerant of error I would recommend a Jackson's chameleon, (T.Jacksonii). They too prefer lower temps but also get a little bit larger than Pfefferi, however, an 18x18x36 would still house one comfortably. A key thing to remember with Pfefferi is they tend to like their humidity rather high, about 80, and like their temperatures to stay below the low 80s.

If you are already successfully keeping a panther and want something different and smaller ... I would suggest Furcifer lateralis lateralis (carpet chameleon).

Better to find a CB one from the mainland Benny, It's not to hard to do. I have had good and bad luck with WC from Hawaii.

For a smaller species I would stick to F. lateralis lateralis, I recommended the same thing in a previous thread made by the OP, and that would be the best option being they have successfully kept F. pardalis.

Alright, thanks guys! If you have any other species that are small or medium sized that you think would be good just let me know!
