It was while we were making guacamole. She always nibbled on whatever we were eating so I just didn't think about it. Otherwise she probably wouldn't have ever had any. She was the sweetest little bird ever, I hand raised her myself.
FYI, pomegranates are also very toxic, or overheating pans with Teflon with a bird around also kills.
really??pomegranates??? so then all those birds feasting on my friends tree in his back yard fly off and die somplace?? thats trippy..(totally believeable tho)
I know they are toxic to psittacines, but don't know about other kinds. I'm sure that some berry eating species have better adaptations for eating them. Hopefully they're not dying!

That's so funny...But seriously, egg crate dissolves very quickly in fluid. It's barely cardboard. Try it, it falls apart. It's a "pressed" paper product.
It's a plant based fiber product, nothing else. It should not be a concern.

This must be specific to hookbills and it might be the rind or the seeds. Several of my softbilled bird books list pomegranate as an acceptable fruit for tanagers and honeycreepers. But, they are pretty expensive for what you get out of them so I doubt I'd use them anyway.
