Parsonii for sale on Kingsnake

I saw a post by Reptile Pets Direct saying that have just received 5.5 Cbb Parsons that are 8 months old. Asking $2000.00 per animal. Is anyone familiar or have purchased from this company. I am thinking about getting a male? Ruth
 
Im not familiar with the company, but forum rules do not allow us to discuss these matters... We must refer to the fauna BOI or other outside sources.
 
Yes Alex is completely correct. You are not allowed to post external links to, or ask about animals for sale in other locations. Go to the fauna BOI.

To further explain policies here, there are many reasons we don’t allow breeder and individual review threads on Chameleon Forums. Primarily it’s a moderation nightmare. Unfortunately most of those kinds of threads tend to be negatively charged and can quickly escalate into bickering, finger pointing and name calling. Good reputations can easily be damaged by an inadvertent comment derived from rumours and innuendo even from parties not directly involved. Chameleon Forums is here to educate and offer support within the community, not to be a part of the drama that is often associated with it.

There is a website equipped to deal with these types of problems and they have certain standards in place to prove or disprove any accusations between the parties involved. It is called the Board of Inquiry located at Fauna Classifieds. I strongly recommend that you check the respective forums before you purchase to verify whether the breeder has a positive reputation or not.

Thank you, and i understand how difficult it would be to moderate this topic ... however ... that being said i am asking for information and this is a site about offering information about chameleons so this isn't out of line to ask such a question but rather a difficult topic to monitor. I think that since so many of us do buy chameleons site unseen online we should have an area we can discuss our buying sources. Now if anyone would like to pm me privately i would appreciate the information as i do not want to start a "firestorm" here. Thank you again moderators for your wise insight. Ruth
 
Trace - I was wondering if that policy applies to Craigslist as well? I know I've posted a couple of times to link those in the area to local chams, and don't want to be in anyone's bad graces. Is there a difference since Craigslist is primarily re-homing, and not breeders (in theory at least)? Thanks!
 
Now Backwater reptiles has Parsons for sale. Is there a "pipeline" of these chameleons coming into the United States? Just seems odd for so many to be showing up at the same time? Again not trying to stir anything up and please pm me with your thoughts and concerns. Slainte' Ruth
 
I know the guy personally who has brought them in. Watch out for scammers because there are a few that are here people are going to post they have them to ...

OK, inquiring minds want to know. Is it legal to import WC Parson chameleons? I had to inquire a little further as to whether these were CB or WC, who bred them, were they vet checked ect ... Now here is just a part of the answer i received so once again i am curious has something changed and now it is legal to import WC Parsonii? Ruth




You've got good taste! The Parson's are fantastic. They are all wild caught--I've not seen cb Parson's in a few years. They rarely appear on the market so when we had the opportunity to import some juveniles we jumped at it. Yes, they are here in the US. We have a vet come every week or so just to check up on the inventory, etc, but we don't preemptively treat animals for parasites unless they show the need for such treatment as it can be very hard on their bodies (Panacur, etc).
 
It is not legal... Typically smuggled out of Maddy and into countries which produce false paperwork...

Im sure someone with more knowledge on this subject will chime in with greater detail...

It has not been legal for any Party to CITES (which the US is) to import wild caught Calumma parsonii since 1995, unless they were legally exported from Madagascar prior to then. At this year's CITES Standing Committee meeting, C. parsonii was officially removed from the list of suspended species, but they were given an export quota of 0 (meaning it is still illegal to import wild caught individuals that were not exported legally prior to 1995). The seller is either mistaken on their being listed as wild caught on their CITES documents or...

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this....but is it okay for me to mention the person that I got my cham from(another forum member), to a new member in the market for a veiled chameleon like mine? I like to recommend her and I always mention how healthy he is. Should I not be doing that anymore? I don't want to break any rules.

....they have documentation of importation prior to 1995 ban for CITES paperwork or they somehow produce non authentic CITES paperwork. For Parsonii it is a gamble as to whether their paperwork is authentic (popular public image is most likely not). I only know of two maybe three places that have got specimens still alive or produce from specimen that were acquired before the ban. With a life span of possibly 20 years theoretically babies from 1995 could still be alive and produced F1 and F2 animals (F2 produced I have heard has been done picture confirmation would be great though).

I have seen pictures of Craig's imported Parsonii before and they are as similar to last time and look to be 100 percent captive bred and are in great health.

Thanks everyone for your insightful comments and opinions. Looks like more Parsonii are on the way according to the sales reps i have been corresponding with. As for me i am just going to watch and envy those who get them. Perhaps i will win the lottery soon! Ruth
 
Wow this is all very informative about the Parson's. I didn't realize they were illegal to be wild caught! Why is that? Where they or are they endangered or something? I just love the look of those guys, but the price is too much for me lol :p
