Some chams will never "tame". Don't remove any foliage, in fact, the more the better. If you can't find him right away, you're doing it right. You have to remember, these aren't pets, they're more like exhibits, meant to be looked at, not played with. Give it time, as he becomes more familiar with his surroundings, he may very well start to recognize that you're the source of food, and warm up a little. But remember, some veiled chameleons will never want to be held, or looked at for that matter. Just accept they all have personality, some better than others.
