Over misting?

I mist zuggie 2-3 times a day ( i let the cage dry out between mistings) i also maybe once a day fill my 1.25L hand mister with nice warm water and stand and spray zuggie directly (on his back not face lol!! ) and he absolutly loves it he curls his tale closes his eyes and peeps at me every couple of seconds, it takes around 5 mins or so to empty the mister, depending on what speed i have it on, but i have just read somthing about over misting?? Could i be over misting? I hope not as he seems to love his 5 min warm showers :) any input anyone? :)

I've got one of those all screen cages with the white plastic removable sheet for a bottom...

My cage never dries out after the first automated mist of the day but the fake plants sure do which is why I also drip all day. I hand mist when I walk in the door from work.

I have been wiping the bottom out after the last mist of the day, before I go to bed to give it a chance to dry out over night. Plus there is usually a little poop and bits of Romaine I put in for the crickets, so I like to get all of that out nightly as well.

I don't really want to drill holes on the bottom, I'm worried crickets will escape.

If the water sits on the bottom for extended periods of time (days) what are the health issues that need to be considered?

I have the same cage!!

My cage dries out fine!, i have holes drilled at the bottom no crickets can fit through the holes! Mind you it wouldnt
Matter i dont use crickets lol, i have like a mini snow scraper u use for your car and if theres any left over water just scrape it to the middle with that and it goes down the holes, i also completely do a dry out b4 he goes bed turn his dripper off an hour and a half b4 lights out and make sure the bottom is completely dry, having water in your cage for long periods of time is not good!! It will start creating bacteria and can cause RI infections so thats a no go!!

I know he does drink every morning from his dripper as i see him drink from that while im putting his food in, hes not botherd how close i am or anything he will just drink, i guess he has alot of trust in me as he is just sooo chilled out :) his urates are always nice and white no yellow in atall! They have been really good ever since i started with the 5 min showers he loves them!! Just dont want to be overmisting!!!! Can anyone help? Do u think i am over misting? :)

OK, maybe I'll put some small holes in this weekend. I have a couple of those nice "Dura-trays" I get from Woody’s Wabbit's, just trying to figure out a good low profile bulkhead to use for drainage. I may just have to go with a plain hole and a bucket under it.

I like the snow scraper idea. I haven't seen one of those since I moved from Michigan to Florida :D They don't even sell them down here. But I know what would work, one of those shower squeegees.

Yeah just put 2-3 holes in the bottom quite close to each other, you will have to figure out how to sort of bow the middle so most of the water drains to the middle and into the holes this would work by putting 4 blocks of wood underneath every corner and having somthing heavy in the middle of your cage to bow it like a live plant thats how ive done it repotted the live plant in a heavy pot and sit it so the holes are infrot of it if u know what i mean  lol

i also stuck a sive underneath the holes underneath the cage so it all drains directly into a big bin i have under the cage, i have my cage sitting on a table that divides in the middle to make it bigger, took the middle bit out so i have a big hole in the middle for the sive to sit an it drains into my bin,
Lol i found it in my car and thought yes that would work!! Here it is if u didnt know what i ment :)

I dont know what id do without it now :D lol

I like your idea of the warm water showers, my jacksons would love that.
If you are doing it every day for only a few minutes, I dont see any harm in that.
Do you use filtered water?

I also have the dura trays from Woodies Wabbits! LOL and I do the same thing. Found some cheap bulkheads on Amazon that has those "push in" hose connections (1/4'') so I use a piece of tubing from my Mist King and have it drain into a plastic bucket.

Since I will soon have 3 chams, I am thinking about connecting all the drain tubes into a manifold and have it drain outside using a hole in the wall that used to be for my cable TV.

Yea, I'm having a hard time finding bulkheads with a very low profile. If it sits up an 1/8th inch, the tray will then hold an 1/8th inch of water if you know what I mean...inless I block three corners up slightly to direct the water to one corner.

I cobbled up something last weekend that was actually flush with the inside/bottom and glued it in place but the glue I used didn't like the dura material and popped off :( Back to square one. I'm thinking maybe 5 minute epoxy.

Yeah, my bulkheads dont sit flush with the surface of the dura tray. I have to slightly raise the other 3 corners to direct the water to the drain.
Still, there is always a small pool of water in the drain corner, but I can live with it

:)

And i don't use filtered water no, i live in the uk and our water here is pretty good, but it does leave the white residue on the leaves not much atall tho, should i use filtered water?
I have a KillaSpray and just use strait from the tap, can you get things that filter the water and u can use as to spray too if you know what i mean
? Sorry for all the questions  lol

Mine doesnt hide under the leaves, he freaking climbs on the top of the screen or runs out the cage, and almost falls :(

Do you "over misters" live in dry climates?

I live on the coast and my indoor humidity is usually over 60% ..

Do I really need to be misting 3 times a day if my drip system is working?

Aww well he will just be getting used to it, try it nice and warm not too hot just warm and see what he is like, im sure he will come around to it at some point! Lol :)

That's a good idea. The water now is room temp but by the time it hits him it probably feels cold.

Yeah probably! Zuggie didn't used to like it that much then i started using warm water and he loves it!! Lol just try it nice and warm to touch, when you are spraying a fine mist too that cools it down fast as the water is being separated into a fine mist so it probs is abit cold by the time it hits him.. Just spray for a couple of mins then try and spray his body, like his back and see how he reacts to the nice warm
Water :)
