Holy Mackeral. I have read about other people getting but and saying it hurt, but i didnt think they had that much jaw strength. lol

I have a Cham who cant catch prey on her own becuase she cant hit anything with her tongue, I took her out and she was hanging out in my living room tree and i gave her a nice superworm treat. As i held it betwee my fingers, she hit the end of my thumb and bit so hard that i got a blister. It really scared the crap out of me, especially since i had feed her daily and this has never happened. lol

oh well, i just thaught id share. ....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!:p Sorry couldnt help myself. I just rolled laughing when I saw the title pop up hahahahaha. SOrry about your luck:D

I have yet to have been bit by any of my chams, a few close calls and "nips" / "mouthing" but luckily that's it....I know one day "Synyster" my male sambava will get his chomp on.....his name is very fitting,..this is a day i'm not looking forward to.. :)wear gloves!

lol, ya a blood blister.... Laugh all you want, it surprised me too! She's like a little cobra, lol.

Its too bad i have to keep sticking my fingers within mm of her mouth to feed her. I was getting a little too comfortable. Oh well, Its more fun than cup feeding :> Im sure ill get it again!

Hope this cheered some people up!

I should get a pair of gloves but usually just sing quietly to my chams while i try to handle them for the most part. lol

my buddy has been hit by his scorpion and his rose hair, hopefully it never happens to me..... hhahaha GINX

HAHA he isn't mean and it wasn't an attack!

The day he bit me i was feeding him hornworms and one grabbed a hold of his lip as he was chewing on it and he couldn't swallow the worm. So while he was gaping I slid my finger along his lip to push the worm. Well he felt my finger and chomped down! OUCH! He clamped and then released.... luckily I remembered not to pull away or the teeth impressions he left would have been deep cuts.

I think a lot of it has to do with the aggression of the animal. I had a female veiled that used to bite me alllll the time. She was mostly doing it to show she isn't too happy. One time I had her outside and needed to bring her back inside. I was reaching up to get her out of the tree and she ran down the branch and bit me WAY harder than I had ever felt her bite before. She quickly retreated up the branch.

So I think a lot of it has to do with how angry the animal is... A melleri has a big mouth and I can imagine a lot of muscle to operate it. I just don't think they have much intention to hurt when they bite us. Well at least in my case it wasn't an aggressive bite... just a misunderstanding.

o yeah.....lol

summoner- that mellerii is a beast!

I think I should say thanks? lol He is pretty chill and relaxed most of the time. Sometimes he isn't in the mood for my head or camera to get close to him.... and he'll gape like that. I weighed him yesterday and he was 400 grams! I need to slow him down a bit.... hes a bit on the fat side.

my african pyxie frog that i have had for over three years finally bit me not too long ago...she simply just missed the mouse i was holding for her, but has struck at me and missed plenty of times. she is mean...but it tore my finger WIDE open...was almost worthy of stiches. still havent had the cham bite yet...

My panther has bitten me twice, neither time with malice aforethought. Once was, like the melleri, a case of trying for the bug and getting me too. Being a chameleon, he had to sit there with his teeth clamped down on both the bug and I for a moment while he thought over his next move. The other time, I was very foolishly trying to entice him to drink by dripping water off my fingers. He drank, and he chomped.

I get the impression a panther is nothing on a veiled when it comes to biting.
