Oustalet's Questions

Hello, I'm new to the chameleon world and have been doing some research on them as I'm looking to purchase soon(3-6 months). I was between a Verrucosus and a Oustalet's. I really want to get a Oustalet's but I'm having trouble finding one CB? Any pointers on keeping would be great too. I have read the basics for chameleon care and a lot of info through these forums. I am planning on going to the reptile expo here in phoenix in Nov. but, any info would be good. I was probably going to build an enclosure and get everything set before I buy.

Your going to have a hard time finding them cb. There arent that many people working with that species. I think LLL has some wc ones for sale, and I saw some on either Kingsnake or Fauna not long ago also. Your going to need a really large enclosure for them. I f i were building my own I would go 24" x 24" x 60". I would say go even wider and deeper than those measurements but then your going to have a hard time moving the cage around thru doorways. I have made the mistake of building a cage to large to get thru the doorway of the bedroom.

I did the same thing! I actually had a 6 feet tall by 5 feet wide by 3 feet deep cage for my Oustie and he utilized every inch of it. Well, I had to take it apart outside and then put it together in the room, well I am so sick of taking it apart that I just built him a new one outside, lol. He just died of old age, but was very spoiled. They like to climb up, down, left, right, so as much room as possible reduces stress. I would definitely recommend an Oustalets vs Verrucosus because Verrus are so shy and Ousties are more outgoing. If you can't find CB, get a young WC and then maybe you can breed this wonderful species later on so that there are more of us out there trying to do so :). That would be wonderful!

Yeah, that's what I'm running into.. I can't find any... I checked Kingsnake and Fauna, and no luck. I was hoping to put it out there and someone would come out and say they were breeding them!! lol. No such luck yet. Yeah, I figured large enclosure around those dimensions seeing as they can get almost 24". Depending on if I get a young one, I may built a smaller one at first and then a larger one when he gets older... Man that sux that no one has any CB. Worried about parasites with a WC. Thanks for the info

They are pretty hardy and I would just have fecals done and use Reptaid. Reptaid is very efficient with taking care of parasites and it is fairly safe for their system (unless pregnant thought).

Did you get my PM?

Check out "CORNERS LIMITED" for big cages...I have an 8'x8' hex that I use during the warmer months for my guys!!!

Corners Limited has some pretty nice cages! Did you do a custom, flight, or panel form cage? I would probably consider that for when they get bigger. Do you think AZ summer heat would be too much though?

It is a custom. As for outside temps when it gets above 95 degrees and below 60ish I bring them into there winter housing.
I'll post some picts later..
