I got a female oustalets cham almost 2 months ago. She is beautiful and healthy. she eats fine and appears normal except in the last month she doesn't climb much. she spends 90% of her time on the floor. I Have been told she might be holding eggs and looking for a place to lay, but for a month? I took a few pictures

any opinions on why she might be sitting on the ground all the time?
Room temp is 78 degrees she has a 50 watt heat bulb and a fluorescent UVB. misted daily.

She looks chunky.

and fro the record- it takes anywehre from 3-6 weeks for a cham to lay.

do yo uhave a lay bucket for her?

I am gong to comment on something outside of the egg laying issue...the moss in the bottom of your cage! I would remove that right away. See that cricket sitting there? She could shoot for it and get a mouth full of moss with it! It has happened to others. Leave the cage floor bare. It is the safest way to go.Plus I am sure it is going to get wet and soggy which means bacteria and mold.

i second, sambava queen.

If your chameleons was mine.
1. Liquid calcium, a few drops from a syringe if fine. Daily
2. Natural sunlight daily or if this is not an option buy a new uvb bulb asap.
3. Although the chameleon doesnt look dehydrated. Just be sure atm the cham is getting lots of water.
4. Loose the moss off the bottom.
5. A laying site as deep as you can make it with moist sand. Be sure you can form caves and it not fall in.

Please fill out a how to ask for help form.

She gets calcium with d3 coated crickets daily.

Natural sunlight, I am in miami and it's 90 degrees in the shade during the day so I don't see how i can keep her in the sun and cool enough. but she already has a uvb bulb

I mist her twice daily and i make sure if she keeps drinking that there is water until she stops on her own

Moss is gone

I put in a lay box. 6 qt sterilite tub with a hole cut in the top. 3-4 in deep vermiculite.

If she was carrying eggs, wouldn't she stop eating or eat less?

I would not be giving her d3 everyday. You can overdose them on d3 in a supplement, but not d3 from the sun. So glad you removed the moss! :)

I would use play sand, soil, or a mix of the two.

What brand of D3 are you using, it might not be much of an issue depending on brand. If you keep her in the shade, it should be fine, or if you can set up her cage so that she has a small bit of sun with enough shade to retreat to, that would be great.

you are right, i should have asked the brand. Having a senior moment here! I know repcal is not good to use daily.

I'm not very old, but I can relate. My brain gets a little lame sometimes. :)

Definitely not good if it's repcal!
