You are right! I thought you were talking about planting mix for plants. Vermiculite and Eco earth would hold a tunnel and be great for a laying bin and can be used as an incubation media. Sand would work also. Sorry for the confusion. I'm at work and can't read all of the replies.
My parsonii cage is in limbo, due to my pending trip to Germany and 2 days out 18 that haven't rained.
My base is this, aerated with large pine bark nuggets and lava rock, then capped with organic soil for raised beds and a bit more of the base. There will be TONS of low growing plants to cover the substrate, so ingestion of small bark pieces is of no more likely than them eating a woody branch off the ficus and suffering some complication.
